Star Wars Trilogy Top

Star Wars (I'm talking about the original trilogy, not the new crap) is the best thing ever. Period. BESTTHINGEVER! The best, most exciting, and most entertaining science fiction series ever. The storyline is amazing, and the acting is perfect. The special effects, too, are nothing to scoff at - despite being 30 years old, the Star Wars trilogy has better special effects than some modern movies! And there isn't a single computer graphic in the entire trilogy (unless you have the Gold edition)!

The Rock Top

Feating Sean Connery, Nicholas Cage, and Ed Harris, The Rock is an exciting action movie more than worth seeing. After an Army General (Ed Harris) and a regiment of marines steal 15 rockets armed with an incredibly lethal kind of chemical weapon, they set up a base at Alcatraz, taking 81 civilians hostage. From there, they demand that the U.S. government make restitution payments to the families of Special Forces troops who died under the General's command. At this point, the chemical weapons specialist Stanley Goodspeed (Nicholas Cage) must team up with a Seal task force and the convict John Mason (Sean Connery), who is the only man who knows the tunnel systems below Alcatraz in order to disarm the missiles. An excellent combination of action and humor make this movie a delight to watch.

The Matrix Top

What would the world be like if you lived in a dream? What would the world be like if machines controlled reality, and nothing was what you thought it was? This is the concept behind The Matrix, one of the best action/sci fi movies of all time. If you haven't already seen this movie, you're seriously missing out. Don't wait any longer. See it now.

Equilibrium Top

Humanity has nearly destroyed itself in nuclear war. The survivors live in a lone city, a massive utopia surrounded by the ruins of the world. In an effort to prevent war from ever occuring again, the leader has set up a simple system of control. A drug is taken by every member of society, a drug that stops all emotions. A drug that stops a person from being able to feel. In theory, this is the perfect solution; there will never be any killing or war, for these events are born of emotion, of anger and hate and rage. However, no plan is perfect. There are those that choose not to take the drug, those that choose to feel instead of living in a world without emotion.

In addition to the police force, a small elite taskforce of specially trained fighters. Called 'Clerics', these men are assigned with the duty of executing those who choose to feel, as well as destroying anything left from the old world that may inspire emotion. (Although this is never brought up, the drug itself seems to be imperfect; people still appear to feel a tiny bit of curiosity, loyalty, and fear). Equilibrium tells the tale of one such cleric, and his struggle against his own emotion. An excellent action film with some fresh perspective. Don't believe those who call it a Matrix ripoff, Equilibrium is truly new and different.

Black Hawk Down Top

Black Hawk Down tells the tale of U.S. special forces troops on a mission gone awry in Somalia. The mission was simple at first; capture a few key personel of a Somalian militia and return to base. However, after several Black Hawk helicoptors are shot down by the militia, dozens of American soldiers are left stranded in the city. This movie is the story of their ordeal. BHD is primarily an anti-war film, so the focus is on showing you the horror of war through blood and gore. Also, the action seems a bit lacking in places (you hardly ever see anyone actually shoot). Regardless, BHD is a terrific movie.

Any James Bond Movie with Sean Connery Top

Do I really need to write a review here? Come on, Sean Connery is the best Bond ever! These are the classics, with the best acting, the best one liners, and the best plots. The movies before Bond turned into an overly dragged out, dull series (*cough* Pierce Brosnan *cough*). So watch the classic Bond films today!

The Fugitive Top

The exciting story of a man on the run from the law, trying to find the man who killed his wife and clear his own name. With a terrific lineup of Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones, The Fugitive is one of the best movies of all time that I don't feel like writing a review about just now (I'm getting sick of writing reviews).

S.W.A.T. Top

I don't feel like writing a long review, maybe I will later. Hell, I probably will now. The first half of SWAT was pretty good, it was about their training and stuff. It was pretty immersive and entertaining, and their research into actual SWAT communications and tactics was nice to see onscreen. Players of the computer game SWAT 3 (not related to movie except being about SWAT) will immediately recognize a lot of the lingo ("10-David","Element","Put 'em on safe and let 'em hang",etc). The second half, the 'action' half, was anything but. The action was too short and too sparse, and not tense enough. To top it all off, the heroes accomplished their goal much too easily, and the ending wasn't as dramatic as it should have been. It was more realistic, yes, but in today's Hollywood dramatic-flashy-everything era, the ending was just too... boring. Overall, worth a rent, maybe even an $8.50 ticket, and if you really like real life SWAT the DVD will probably be a must have (I'm betting there will be tons of extras about real life SWAT), but on whole, not nearly as good as it could have been.

Pirates of the Caribbean Top

Hot damn that was a good movie. Excellent humor, excellent acting, excellent special effects, and I've heard people raving about how hot each of the three of the lead actors are (Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, and Johnny Depp [who seems to have replaced Bloom as the current 'Hollywood hottie']). Not about all three at the same time, guys rave about the former and girls rave about the latter two. But you get the point. Also, lots of tributes to the ride from which this movie takes its name. A MUST SEE!

School of Rock Top

Whoo! This was a good one. Extremely well done, with hilarious acting by Jack Black. Those kids are really playing too, and they are damn good. Good plot, good humor, good music, good time. See now! NOW!

Basic Top

Basic is a story told around the investigation of the deaths of several Army Rangers during a training excercise. As different participants in the events tell their stories, the plot begins to unfold, showing you what happened during that day. Or, at least. that person's version of what happened. The story changes each time as different people say different things, and the whole things becomes this sort of convoluted mess of plot twists that sounds assanine but is actually really good. There are quite a few twists and you'll probably have to watch it twice or maybe three times to understand everything. It's definitly worth your time, however.
