EVOLUTION: A gradual process of change or development.

The way I see it, fitness, in its purest form, is just that...evolution. Science tells us that the earth, and everything on it, is in a constant state of change. We, just like every piece of dirt on the planet, are subject to the laws of nature. Like it or not, we are changing every day. I think fitness, and activity, for most people (certainly most people I know) is something that ended with graduation. To me, that's just plain sad. If all you can think about is what you did yesterday, then you didn't do anything today. I know there are some things we have no control over. A totally polluted environment, the stress of every day life in our society...things like that. But, there are things we have absolute control over...like our lifestyle, and what we choose to put into our bodies. In my entire life, I have never seen anyone dragged into a McDonald's kicking and screaming. Can't say I've ever seen anyone get a ciggy butt rammed into their mouth either. What I'm trying to say is, environmental factors aside, the way we change is pretty much up to us.

Your body is really an amazing thing. It's by far the most sophisticated machine on the planet. It has the potential to evolve into whatever we want it to be. The key word here is POTENTIAL. If you work it, it will become stronger. It will evolve into a body you can be proud of, capable of handling your daily routine. If you neglect it, it will become weaker. It will evolve into a heaping pile of shit, capable of nothing. That is the nature of fitness.

"I don't have the time, or the discipline to do it."

You go to work every day don't you? That tells me you do have discipline, when you want to. We all have busy schedules, and I know you don't think you have the time. You better make the time, because if you don't make time for fitness...your gonna have to make time for disease. So cut back from 6hrs of TV to 5 a couple days each week.

"I'm so out of shape, I'll never be able to do it!"

It's NOT too late! In fact, we now know that it's NEVER too late! Do you know that every single protein in your body will be broken down and replaced within a 6 month period? Skin, bones, muscle, blood, organ...EVERY SINGLE PROTEIN! Recent studies with resistance training & geriatric patients, who were "sedentary" (that means they were inactive) their entire lives, showed not only an increase in muscle tissue, but also in the strength & flexibility of the tissue! This may mean little to you, but when research points out time after time, that patients who used walkers for years no longer need them...that speaks volumes to me.

"What's the use, we all gotta die sometime."

This is the one I hear the most. This is true, but do you know how long you will live? I don't. But I do know this. If you get yourself into shape, and stay that way, you'll  increase your chances of living longer. More importantly, you will increase the QUALITY of those years beyond anything you could've imagined.

Stop making excuses! You owe it to yourself. You owe it to the people who care about you. The bottom line is this: Obviously we weren't born the way we are now, only with the potential. We are the direct result of the changes brought on by our environment and our lifestyle. We evolved...for better or worse. We will continue to do so until we die.
