Introduce Unit: I always like to introduce a unit with a book. We read a weather book (any book that describes many types of weather). Then, we will make a graphic organizer of the types of weather we know. See picture below: (coming soon)
Class Rainbow: Using the colors of the rainbow, children will place their hands in paint and determine (sort by color) which row their color goes in. The rows will be started before the lesson. We display our creation in the hallway. See picture: coming soon! Symmetry Clouds & Hearts: We have our weather unit close to Valentine's Day, so we tie in both together in this activity. Each child will get a cloud shape and heart shape piece of construction paper. They will squirt any color paint on the pieces. They will fold them in 2, and we will open them and see what happens! See picture: (coming soon!)

A Windy Experiment: We will talk about how the wind can blow some things and not others. Then I will ask WHY? To find out, we will conduct an experiment. We will have 5 items placed on a table (liquid in a cup, paper, feather, a book, and blocks stacked up). We will first make a prediction of what we think will happen. Each child will mark next to the item YES if they think it will blow over. They will mark NO if they think it will NOT blow over.
After we make our prediction on our DATA SHEET, we will conduct our experiment. We will then write the "answer" in according to what happened. (this covers a science objective of prediction & recording data)
Cooking Idea: To end our weather unit, we will have a little weathery snack. I call it "rain cloud snack." Ingredients: whipped cream & sprinkles. We will have a paper plate for each child. They will put clouds (whipped cream) on their plates. Then, they will sprinkle rain (sprinkles) on. They will eat it when finished. Then, we will talk about how it tasted. Who liked it and who did not "graph." See pic: coming soon!
