Fictional Story:

By: MerlieJ

Runaway

It was such a horrible day for the beautiful Princess Shana. Today’s the day she’ll be arranged to be married to the bold, young, handsome and arrogant Prince Bailey of Glen.

Princess Shana’s parents, King Alfred and Queen Tamia, agreed to make a pact long time ago with Bailey’s parents, King Winslow and Queen Leila, she’ll marry the little Prince Bailey someday.

That someday is now, Shana thought. She muttered a sigh. She heard a knock on the door.

"Come in," she said. Burst in a lady in her mid-40’s with black hair in a roll. It was her old maid, Nascha.

"Oh, come on now, Princess," she mouthed. "Your highness is waiting for you at the conference room."

"But you know that I don’t want to come."

"Yes, my child, I know that. But we don’t want your parents to be disappointed," Nascha replied.

"Oh,Nana," she calls her old maid. Tears rolled down her cheeks. "Why can’t I chose the man I love?"

"You poor kid," Nascha comforted her. "Hush, now, mydear. Dry those tears away. For 17 years I’ve served you, I don’t want bad things to happen to you. Now, you’ve turned into a beautiful lady I only want what’s best for you. And maybe, that’s what the king wants, too."

"But it only breaks my heart. Just to see that arrogant Bailey," she said. "I hate it when dad put it this way. I’ll not be happy anymore."

"Well, my dear, give him a chance. Everything will be alright. You’ll see. Time will come you’ll turn to love him," Nascha said optimistically.

"Oh, I’ll keep that in mind," Shana replied, then she smiled. "Thanks."

Then she hugged her old maid. Time will come, someone will come. She thought.

###

"Why, if it isn’t my beautiful daughter!" King Alfred uttered as Shana burst in the conference room. She kissed her father’s forehead. She sat down politely between her parents.

Everyone in the room was present. There was Bailey, who shot her a look and looked away, his parents and her parents. It feels like she’s suffocating in the room. She’ll prepare for her doom.

I think I’m gonna be sick. She thought. King Winnslow’s voice interrupted her thoughts.

"So, my man, she’ll be my daughter –in-law," King Winslow said to his son.

"Yes, my dear, isn’t she lovely?" Queen Leila agreed. "What a thought to see you have such wonderful babies."

Ugh!No Way! Shana thought. Not in a million years. Nope, not with Bailey the slob.

"Bah!," Bailey replied. Ugh!

"So when’s the celebration?" Queen Tamia asked.

"We’ll arranged it 3 months by now," Queen Leila replied. " We’ll think about that."

"Agree?"

"Maybe."

Shana couldn’t take any of this talking anymore.

"Excuse me," she replied as she turn to walk away.

"Hey," her father screamed. "Sit down. This talking is not yet over. This will be put to orders!"

The room went silent. Shana felt her cheeks turn red. She faced them again and sat down quietly.

"So, as I was about to say" King Winslow said to break down the ice. "Why don’t you kids get to know more of each other?"

"That’s a brilliant idea," Queen Leila agreed.

Shana looked at Bailey. He turned to look away.

Oh, I’m doomed! She thought as she looked down on her lap.

###

"Oh, Nana! It was so horrible. I'll be doomed forever!" Shana cried after the conference. She was so reliefed that the meeting is finally over.

"Hush now, Shana, don't be at it again,"

"I know, I know, but it's hard for me, you know," Shana continued to sob. "Maybe i wish i could just die."

"No, don't say that, my dear," Nascha patted her hair.

"Tomorrow that Bailey will be here again. Mom and dad said we'll get to know more of each other. But i don't want to know him he's too bad. Just the look on his face earlier tells me i'll go insane if i get near him" Shana replied as a matter of fact.

"Oh, dear. Just get to know him. Maybe it'll change your mind."

"Nana, i don't wanna be like this forever. I'm always crying out in pain. I have feelings, too, right? I want the man for me who will love me as who i am and not some kind of an arrangement. I want the right man to come for me in the right way, in the right place and in the right time. Can't they understand that? Huh, Nana?" Shana cried.

"Oh, you poor kid," is all Nasha could say to the poor princess.

###

Next afternoon, Princess Shana and Prince Bailey were walking down the woods. Well, to get to know each other but nobody said a word to either one of them.

Oh, this is turning out to be so boring.Bailey thought. Maybe i could just talk to her.

Oh, what in the world. I'm wasting time with him. Shana thought grimly.

"Hey, Princess, i know this is hard for both of us," finally the prince spoke.

Finally he spoke.Shana thought.

"Yeah, " he said as if he knew what's on her mind. "Maybe we could just give it a try."

I want to give her a dose of what she wants. Bailey thought and he smiled wryly.

Shana just shrugged. Yeah. Whatever.

"You know we're all alone here," Bailey said to her arrogantly.

"I know. So?"

The next thing she knew, Bailey stepped closer to her and dugged her beneath a tree. He kissed her passionately on the lips, to her neck and back again. Shana was so surprised.

"What do you think your doing?" she asked him angrily as she backed off from his grip.

"Hey," Bailey said anguished. " I thought..."

But just as he was about to explain, she slapped him hard on his cheeks.

"Hey, just because you're handsome and brave you could slobber any girl you want," she screamed. "But don't get me wrong, Bailey of Glen, I'm not playing hard to get with you just what you were thinking. I'm not like those type."

Shana turned to walk away. Bailey walk behind her.

"Hey, i just thought it's what you want," he said.

"Well, i don't!" Shana faced him. "I don't even want to get near you.Keep that in your piuny mind!"

She continued to walk away. Bailey still walk behind her.

"Hey, I'm sorry," he said. " i didn't mean to..."

"Shut up!"

"Hey, i said i'm sorry!"

"Well, forget it!!! I had enough!!!" Shana shouted back as she ran back home while Bailey was left right behind her..

Well, things really gone wrong to worst!!! She thought.

###

That evening, Shana locked herself up to her room. She don't want to talk to anybody even to Nascha. She felt miserable. Very.

Oh, i hate this day. It's so awful. Bailey. The kiss. Ugh! She thought as she looked herself onto the mirror. Her eyes were puffy from crying. Suddenly, she heard a soft knock at her door.

"I said Go Away!!!" she shouted. But the knocking didn't stop there.

"Hey, it's me, Daisy," the girl replied softly outside her door. Daisy was the duke's beautiful daughter. She and Daisy have been friends eversince they're kids. She's a sweet and nice girl.

Shana think of it for awhile. It's been weeks since they've not talked to each other. Daisy was her friend so a little comfort and advice won't hurt her.

"Come in," she said softly. Daisy dashed to her room with a tray of food. She placed it on her bedside table.

"Here," Daisy said. " Eat. Have some food. This is good for you." She handed her an apple.

Shana took it and placed it back at the tray.

"Thanks, but no thanks," she replied. "I'm not hungry anyways."

"Ok," Daisy replied back as she sat beside her. She knows in her friend's eyes something was up. "Ok, tell me what's up?"

"Nothing," Shana lied. She can't look at her friend's eyes. She always know if something's bothering her. She can't hide her feelings from her. Sometimes it annoys her but she always ended up telling the story.

"Oh, tell me. I can read there's a problem."

"I said nothing," she said hotly.

"Hold it! Hold it! Hey, Out with it, girl. I know that look. You sure look mad." she tickled Shana on her ribs. Shana giggled a little.

"Ok, ok, i'll tell ya," she burst out. "But promise me you'll not tell anyone."

"Ok, i promise."

"Promise?"

"Promise!!! Now, tell me."

"Ok," she said. "But don't be surprised."

"Ok. Now what is it?"she asked.

"You know, Bailey?"

"Yup, the arrogant guy? What's with him? You finally decided to marry him?" Daisy joked. Her friend really knows how to make her laugh.

"Nope, idiot. Hey, i'm serious," Shana retorted back.

"Ok, sorry. So, then?"

Shana closed her eyes then she said it fastly. "Well, he tried to forced me."

"He what?!?!?!"

"See, i told you not to be surprised!"

"But why? How? What in the world was he thinking?" Daisy asked. Then, Shana fill her in with the story.

"Oh, I'm so sorry for you," Daisy said as she hugged her friend. "So, that's why you feels so bad."

"Yes, i know that's why i want to kill him," Shana joked and they both laughed.

"So, what're you gonna do now?" Daisy asked her. "It's impossible to break the arrangement esp. with your Highness."

"I know and it's too bad."

"Oh, there's nothing we can do unless if you'll just runaway with it someday," Daisy blabbed on.

Shana hit her with the thought. That's right!!! I'm gonna runaway.

"Hey, that's a brilliant idea!!!" Shana said excitedly. She kissed her friend and hugged her.

"What?!" Daisy was confused. " What did i say?"

"You're right, that's a brilliant idea," Shana continued. "You're a real friend."

"What're you saying?"she asked her wryly.

"I'm gonna runaway."

"You what?"

"I'm gonna runaway!!! Isn't that great?!?" Shana stood up and went to her closet to pack her things.

"Shan, you're going crazy," Daisy said. I've created a monster here.

"Nope, i'm not. If it's the only way i'm gonna be free," she smiled to herself.

"But you're going to get yourself into trouble. Not only you also me." Daisy said. "Forget what i've said. I didn't mean to say that. Just forget that."

"Nope," Shana stopped and face her. "I love it! You're so brilliant!"

"But the king will be worried sick if he'll know these things."

"Of course," Shana told her. "You'll never tell them anything."

"That's a stupid idea."

"Come on, i got a gameplan." She told Daisy by midnight she'll sneak out on her secret passage by her closet (nobody knows except for her, the queen and Nascha) and she'll leave a goodbye note to her parents and Nascha. She'll tell them not to worry.

"So where will you go?"

"To a far a way village where nobody knows about me. My identity," she said.

"This is not going to be easy," Daisy commented. "Why don't you forget the whole idea."

"Hey, Daisy, I know i can count on you. Please just for once, allow me on this one?" she asked.

"Well, ok. But what if they asked me?"

"You'll tell them you don't know where i am."

"You mean, i'm gonna lie? There are guards everywhere, you know."

"DAISY!!!"

"Ok, ok!!! Shana, i know your my best friend. I don't want bad things to happen to you but this will gonna be hard for me but i also want you to be happy," she smiled at her friend.

"Thanks, Daisy," she smiled back and hugged her friend. "You're truly one of a kind."

"I know, i know," Daisy joked. "Don't flatter me so much. I'm gonna miss you."

"I know that."

"Take care, my friend," Daisy whispered."God bless you on your journey."

"Thanks, my friend," Shana sob and closed her eyes as they hugged for the last time.

###

By midnight, everything was so quiet. Shana glanced for the last time at her flourished bedroom. Her things were packed and she left the letter on her bedside table. Everything in her room was so special to her. The times she played there when she was still small, she cried in pain, the laughters and tears with an old friend. Everything was fine until...

i'll kiss this place goodbye. She managed the thought. Then she ducked out the way. I'll go out in the real world.

Shana was somewhat scared what life lies behind her but she'll try to be brave. She knows something... someone... was out there just waiting for her.

###

It was the breaking of the dawn. Shana walked a thousand miles now. She felt very tired and restless. Her eyes were sore from crying and her baggage felt so heavy on her back. Black spots were dillating her eyes and sweat keep pouring on her. Her stomach churn and swirl.

I think I'm gonna pass out.She never felt so haggard before. No one was here to massage her and relax her down.

So this is the outside world. She noticed as she looked at the flea market. Everyone was preparing to open the stalls for another busy day. She walked and walked until she tripped over a stone. Her head spin. She felt her world grew darker and darker as it turn to black out.

###

Where am I? Shana was laid unconscious. Everything was blurred. She felt herself lying on a soft cushion bed with a blanket lying bare. Naked?

Shana was shocked. She wasn't wearing anything except for a blanket that comforted her. Then she opened her eyes slowly and found herself looking in the eyes of a cute guy, a complete stranger.

"Oh!" Shana was startled. She sat up at the bed. Embarrased that the guy have to see him in that way.

"So, I see, you're up," the guy said and he smiled at her.

"Hey!" she said. "What did you do to me? Where are my clothes? What the?"

"Hey, relax," the guy calmed her down. "It's my mom. She washed it . It's now in the laundry."

"Oh."

"By the way, my name's Clint," the guy said as he offered her a hand. "I found you back there the flea market lying unconscious."

Shana shook his hand. "Mine's Shana. Thanks for saving me."

"No problem."

Then a lady came in with a cup of milk. She handed it to her. "Hi, so you're up," she said. "Here take a sip."

"Thanks," Shana took the milk and sip a little.

"So i see, you're already introduced, Clint," the woman said.

"Yes, mom," Clint said. "She seems nice."

"By the way, I'm Sheila," the lady introduced herself. "Clint's mom." Shana shook her hand.

"I'm Shana. Nice to meet you. Thanks for the cup of milk."

"You're welcome. Same here nice to meet you."

Clint smiled at her. "So, what're you doing down there? You really looked unconscious so i carried you home and mom got you here in bed all warm."

"Yes, darling," Sheila continued. "You're all sweat up. So I got your clothes off and keep you warm in bed. Feeling comfortable there?"

"Yes, Thanks again," Shana smiled back at her. She felt a little bit uncomfortable with the guy looking at her as if the blanket's not there. She just shrugged the thought coz they were really nice.

"So, as i was saying," Clint continued. " what's up down there?"

"Well, it's a long story," Shana replied. "I'm really tired."

"Ok, it doesn't matter if you don't tell me, i understand," he said as he stared at her. Clint's look is really making her conscious.

" Well, honey, i haven't seen your pretty face around here. So, i guess you're new in town?" Sheila asked.

"Yes," Shana somewhat lied. "I've come from the other town. I just decided to come here."

"So, do you have any place to stay?" she asked.

"As of now, i still have no idea," Shana answered.

"Well, you're free to stay here," Clint offered. "Be my guest."

"Uhm, ok. Thanks," Shana said shyly. She placed the cup on the headboard. She's making sure no skin was showing out.

"Don't hesitate ok? Be our guest. And your bags were in the den. They're way too heavy, so i think that's why you totally passed out. What's in it anyways? Lead?" Sheila asked and Shana just grinned.

"Hey, Clint," then Sheila turned to him. "Let's have our guest take her rest, ok?" Sheila took the cup and went outside.

"Ok, mom," Clint said then he turned to her. "Well, talk to you when you're better, ok?"

"Ok, thanks." Shana replied. And he started to walk outside the room.

Things will be fine. Shana told herself. Then, she head back to sleep.
