Based on the novel by Thomas Keneally, which itself was based on actual survivor's memories. The film was filmed on location in Caracow, Poland. A tour de force and labor of love for Speilberg, who finally garnered the attention and respect as a filmmaker he deserved. Winner of six Academy Award including Best Picture and Best Director.
