STATE OF THE CACTUS ADDRESS

Greetings, fans and friends of Nerdcore! Inspired by our emperor in chief, King George II inventing several new words and ways to say sentences tonight, I've decided to institute something new, the State of the Cactus address! This will be a periodically released run-through of what is currently happening with NC, what may be coming soon, what we hope for, and so on. So read on, and may the evil evildoers of evil not get you tonight!
First and foremost, the Website! The site is, as always, our main hub...and slowly but surely we're gaining lots of friends and branch-off sites. Genjitsu Manga, run by several of the newest additions to the Nerdcore crew, is working in close concert with us; and we've now as always got a loose friendship with the Phonelosers.org crew. Bob has even built his own Nerdcore affiliated site, and built us a channel on IRC. (In dalnet, it's #nerdcore). Now, I know major updates have been promised for a while...but now it's for real. The main site should be changing a bit soon, but I will hopefully be improving load times and making all past articles easier to navigate, as well as literally updating with many new articles/links/etc a day. I'm not talking every 5 minutes like Fark, but enough to keep people entertained even if they click in every night. To this end, I will be trumping up advertising...you've all seen many of the current ads, and by all means make your own, or just print out ours and drop them everywhere. Through massive annoyance and saturation, we will drive the masses to our little site.

Next, associated with this is the Messageboard. Look, after this semester, I won't be a student at NCC anymore...nor will many others. The original Nerdcore staff will be gone soon, as will everyone else...as grand as our little corner of the college cafe is, we need something more to accomodate and link our rapidly expanding group. To this end, the messageboard will become very essential. It may not be the best, but it's a free and evrsatile means of staying in touch with everyone at once. I also suggest wholescale distribution of IM screen-names, e-mail addresses, and so on, amidst our group. One of Nerdcore's priorities for this semester must be to find a new place, a place outside of NCC, a place where we can hang out whenever we like for however long we like, for free, and hopefully a place that will tolerate our usual trouble-making.

Next up, I'm sure many of you have noticed, social experimenting in the name of Nerdcore has rised signifigantly as of late. Expect this to continue; as one of our prime purposes is to constantly challenge the "norm" and the "common". Things like turning off automatic doors, singing badly to the NCC cafeteria, and so on are all brilliant, and in a new age of digital cameras and video-cameras, expect many more of these events to actually be recorded. Remember one more thing, Nerdcore can only grow through other people finding out about it...simple, right? Distribute flyers...pimp us to websites you like, annoy friends until they visit, change computer net start-up screens to our site address...whatever it takes.

Now, for some internal affairs. Gaming has always been a major part of Nerdcore, from D&D to Warhammer, to Magic...and expect this to become far more of an institution soon. Nerdcore tournaments, one way or another, WILL be held very soon, for all games. Also, the Vampire:The Masquerade full-time LARP -is running- and despite some kinks, is going well. Any problems will be worked at as we play, and as it goes on it will grow and expand; and become incredibly fun for everyone. Comic book stores that will as of yet go unnamed are already beeing wooed by Wayne and I in the hopes of securing space for these Nerdcore tourneys; and it looks good, folks. Next up, the first Nerdcore movie is finally on VHS and available for the masses at a $5 cost, which is going to go toward buying Nerdcore t-shirts and stuff. Scott's "Ugh Monday" is brilliant, and expect more work from him soon, and rumor is that Wayne and I are working on the script for another movie that should be truly mind-blowing. All things considered, this is all very good. Nerdcore productions will soon be much more then a gag, it will be a reality.

Finally, Nerdcore isn't something you "join", Nerdcore isn't about being cool or not being cool. It's not about being anti-jock and prep, despite popular opinion. It's about being yourself, and challenging what everyone wants you to be. It's a state of mind and way of thinking. We have fun with the world, and we're more then just a forum of articles written by nerds and geeks. If you want into Nerdcore, you're in. The 'Staff' is nothing more then an amorphous floating handful of whomever is doing the most Nerdcore-related work at a given time, and once more, remember...ANYONE can submit anything to us, so get workin folks, together we're becoming quite the force...we're spreading like a virus, and we're about to hit our peak. Good things are ahead, and fun times for all...so keep spreading the word of nerd, and take it easy.
