Sometimes you have to wonder what the fuck is wrong with some people. When someone reads a book with a story with an evil God-like creature in it, the common thing to think is "gee, that was a good story." Though as I delve into a certain horror series/RPG/cult known as The Cthulhu Mythos I must ask WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!!

The Cthulhu Mythos, originally created by H.P. Lovecraft, is basically a collection of stories revolving around the Great Old Ones and how "when the stars are right" they will return to the Earth and destroy mankind with insanity and other pleasent tidbits. Lovecraft's Mythos was then altered and added to by fans and other authors over the years, and soon a whole fictional patheon was assembled, including a sort of bible called the Necronimicon (Clatu Barata Ni::COUGH COUGH::). Having read some of the series I must say that it is rather enjoyable and original for a horror series. Hell, Cthulhu himself made an appearence on The Real Ghostbusters.

But then, as with all good things, the crazies got their hands on it. Nut-jobs from all over the world take the Cthulhu Mythos seriously to the point of starting cults and making sacrifices. These lunies even believe that Lovecrafts History of the Necrominicon tells a true story. My copy of the RPG based on the series, Call of Cthulhu, was almost thrown in the garbage by my grandparents cause they thought that I was going from Wiccan to deamon worshiper.

Now, I'm not saying that things based on the Cthulhu Mythos are bad, I'm just saying that you should go into it with the idea that it's fantasy. Save yourself the need to buy sacraficial goats and daggers and all that crap. You'll find the story and game much more enjoyable in the long run
