Had a masters degree in engineering from Princeton. *Hedy Lamarr - Famous 1940's actress trained as an engineer, Lamarr is credited with several sophisticated inventions, among them a unique anti-jamming device for use against Nazi radar. Years after her patent had expired, Sylvania adapted the design for a device that today speeds satellite communications around the world. She is also credited with the line: "Any girl can be glamorous. All you have to do is stand still and look stupid." *Willis Haviland Carrier - Degree in engineering from Cornell. Developed the formulae and equipment that made air conditioning possible. *Jay W. Forrester - Masters degree in engineering from MIT. Pioneer in early digital computer development and invented random-access, coincident-current magnetic storage, which became the standard memory device for digital computers. *Alfred Hitchcock - Director and Producer of films such as "The Birds", "Rear Window", "North by Northwest", and "Psycho", had an engineering degree from Saint Ignatius College. *Elijah McCoy - Had a mechcanical engineering degree. In 1872 he invented a lubricator for steam engines. His new oiling device revolutionized the industrial machine industry by allowing machines to remain in motion while being oiled. It was so succesful that people inspecting the new equipment would ask if it contained "The real McCoy". |
