Triglyceride Levels Knowing your blood cholesterol is important to cardiovascular health. What do you know about your triglycerides? Triglycerides are fat found in our bodies and the food we eat. High blood triglyceride level is a risk factor for heart disease so you should have your levels tested regularly. Your triglyceride level is more directly affected by what you eat than cholesterol. Triglyceride levels are usually higher when you are overweight, consume too much alcohol or refined sugars or when diabetes is out of control. If your triglyceride level is high, have a repeat test to be sure the results are accurate. Changing eating habits is an important step to lowering triglyceride levels. ~ American Dietic Association |
