| I was just checking out C-Span tonight and found the Democratic Unity Dinner. It seems to me they are uniting in their hatred of President Bush. Now what does that say about our two party system these days? I find this very upsetting. Our nation really doesn't have a true "two party system" anymore. The Democrats have become so negative. They have nothing new to add, no revolutionary ideas to make our nation better, safer, or stronger. All they do is tell us all that the Bush Administration has done wrong in their eyes, not what they would do differently or what they stand for. Al Gore's speech was all about bad feelings: his bad feeling about President Bush, and asking everyone to drum up all their bad feelings about President Bush and remember it. Now can you please explain to me exactly what good that will do anyone??? Senator John Kerry speaks about the deficit that has been created by President Bush. Now what caused this deficit? September 11th cost this country enormously. The war on terror has not been cheap, especially when you include that fact that the military had been cut and was not ready for war. Many dollars were spent just getting our troops what they needed to carry out their duties. Our nation had corporate scandals at the highest level of organization. Corporate CEO's were skimming money and lying to stockholders and employees. All these things were "allowed" to happen during Mr. Clinton's watch. As Mr. Kerry sings the praises of Bill Clinton and his economic team, I can't help but feel resentment at that false economy, and false surplus Mr. Clinton gave us. What a cost we have paid for that surplus!!! I wonder if Clinton had spent more money on our intelligence agencies and our military, if September 11, 2001 might have turned out to be just another pretty day. Our economy was not as solid as Clinton wanted us to think, for the recession was coming hard and fast before the Clintons got out of The White House. With all the praise for Clinton coming from John Kerry's mouth, I think Kerry would institute the same false economy for this nation. Is that what you want? I am also distressed about the 911 Commission hearings. Is this panel actually learning anything from these open hearings? I have learned little. Many have never heard some of this information, but there is not much new for a person who has paid close attention since September 11th. I have heard so many Democrats whine about Dr. Rice "refusing" to appear in open hearings. What in the world would Dr. Rice have to add in an open hearing that those who have or will testify haven't already said? Anything that Dr. Rice could add would be classified intelligence. There is no reason for her to appear in an open hearing and waste her precious time there, when she has already given four hours of closed testimony and will probably be called back later, which she said she would gladly do. I honestly wish the entire affair was closed to the public, except for the families of those lost on September 11th, those who are there for the right reasons. I do not like the fact that al Qaeda can watch all this and see us quibble and blame each other for "allowing" the events of 9/11 to occur. I'm sure al Qaeda is basking in their glory. They want to divide us and it seems it is happening. We blame each other for letting 9/11 happen. Could it be that al Qaeda left no clues as to what was about to happen? Of course, our intelligence agencies had been cut, and cut, and cut, throughout the Clinton Administration. Louis Freeh had completely ruined the FBI. Rules had been set in place to actually prevent any intelligence sharing between agencies. When someone in any agency needed to cross over and obtain intel from another agency, that person was told no. Why were these things allowed to happen? Why make such an incredibly hard job so much more difficult??? Then, there are the two faces of Richard Clarke. Clarke is a frightening man. He has changed his story on how he feels about President Bush and the war on terror. What he says today contradicts what he wrote in his resignation letter to President Bush. What Clarke says today contradicts the tape Jim Angle, from Fox News, released on Wednesday (and this release by Fox News really hit a nerve for 9/11 panel member Bob Kerry, who gave quite a rant on the subject). What are Clarke's motives for this radical change? Could it be that John Kerry, if he were to become president, has offered Clarke the job that eluded him under President Bush? Has Kerry promised Clarke the job Tom Ridge holds today, that of Secretary of Homeland Security? Or even the job of National Security Advisor, held by Dr. Condoleezza Rice? Was Clarke's book deal part of his obligation to Kerry and the Democratic Party in order to receive a cabinet level position? Clarke's opening apology at the 9/11 hearings, was to me, a patronizing statement. I was offended by it. It seems those in the gallery were pleased by it. It was stated that most of those people were family members of 9/11 victims. I understand their pain and anger, but I do not understand why they support Clarke, and applauded him several times. Most of Clarke's testimony was centered around his opinions and not on facts. He basically did a Bush-bashing rant and that is not what he was called there to do. He sounded like a hurt child who didn't get what he wanted and this book and his testimony at the 9/11 Commission represent a tantrum. Open your eyes here. This 9/11 Commission is supposed to be about finding out why we didn't get them before they got us. Can't anyone accept the fact that maybe al Qaeda is just that good at concealing their plans? It seems by everything that has been said in those open hearings clearly points to the fact that NOTHING could have prevented those terrorists from flying those planes into the Twin Towers that beautiful September morning. We've got to get that! We've got to accept it and get on with more important things - like digging in and preventing the next attack. Those involved with all this testimony are wasting their precious time and energy, taking attention away from the jobs they should be doing, only to rehash the past. They've done it once in congressional hearings and now they have to do it again for an independent panel, coming up with the same conclusions - NOTHING could have prevented it with the intelligence we had at that time. The good news is things are better now, but there is no perfection in intelligence gathering and never will be. We are all only human. There is a dark side and we cannot read the minds of those who live there, in that darkness. The most hurtful part is this: Why do so many blame President Bush for 9/11? It was terrorists who did this to us. It was HATE that did this to us. Why continue in hate? Shortie 03-25-04 |
