| Today we saw some great footage of Saddam. Was it the real Saddam or one of many doubles? Would the real Saddam please give up? Not likely, I’m afraid. I have some serious doubts about both of these videos. In the statement Saddam made earlier this morning, he mentioned the downing of an Apache Helicopter by an Iraqi farmer. Saddam saying this does not give the video any credence as far as I’m concerned. Saddam and his production team could have made many videos, well in advance of this war. The scenarios regarding how these videos would be used could have been determined well in advance also. So, when any aircraft that may have fallen from the sky, by any cause, there would have been a prewritten script all ready to go, with death squads at the ready to force the nearest Iraqi to play a starring role. The “Iraqi farmer” story was part of the scenario from the start. Saddam knew that we’d loose some sort of aircraft, and most likely a chopper, since they are so hard to maintain in the sand. There were most likely videos made that named every type of aircraft the U.S. flies. Then, when the Apache was downed, out went the film crew and the death squad to force the nearest farmer and his family and neighbors to play out the drama at the crash scene. Then the tape of Saddam labeled “Apache” was pulled out of the vault and readied for just the right moment. That moment was today, with everyone wondering if Saddam was dead or incapacitated and U.S. forces taking the airport outside Baghdad. Perfect timing. Then again, none of the faces we saw today may have been Saddam. The Information Minister has certainly had enough time to create these videos using the numerous Saddam doubles. I honestly do not believe either of these men were the real Saddam. The early video today of Saddam reading the statement looked very much like the poor little guy who gave us a similar statement the night of the first bombing. A bit more makeup and contacts made him look better, but just not enough like Saddam. The shoulders are to small, the forehead to shallow, and the mustache too deep. The double shown walking around Baghdad was too jovial, too cordial, and too touchy-feely to be the real Saddam. The real Saddam would never have allowed people on the street to have their hands all over him that way, or been out in the street with such a small security force. It seemed quite ridiculous to me. The seated Saddam has the voice down pat and the strolling Saddam has the body movement down pat. Does any of this matter? No, not a bit. If Saddam is alive and in Baghdad, we’ll eventually find him. If he has already escaped to Syria, or Libya, or Mauritania, there’s nothing we can do about it. We do know that Iraq's Information Minister, Mohammed al-Sahhaf, seems to have things under control, at least in his own little world. In his own statement today, al-Sahhaf said Baghdad's international airport faced "unconventional action" tonight. Now just exactly what that means, no one knows. Will they use chemicals, biologicals, or nuclear material on our troops? All we can do is hope not and pray not. WorldNetDaily reports that two groups of Russian warships and nuclear-powered submarines are headed for the Arabian Sea. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said Russia had planned war games with India's navy "long before" the war in Iraq began. Speaking of ships, where are those three cargo ships that left waters near Iraq so very long ago, which had no radio contact to anywhere? We’ve heard nothing more about them. Are they still out there? Do they have all things that Saddam’s regime seems to be missing in this war? Do the men on those ships even know that the Allied Forces are in Iraq? How do Allied Forces approach these ships when the war is over? Is that why Russian ships are in the neighborhood – to unload the cargo and carry it away to safety??? Continue to pray for allied forces, pray for peace, and pray for the freedom of the Iraqi people. Shortie 04-04-03 6:00 PM EST |
