The Rounds

ROUND ONE

TOM scores 5 points for Dave Killingback's "Alternative Slice" (non-No Show appearance, winning a Smashing Pumpkins poster and receiving Smashing Pumpkins poster - it's very nice) and 3 points for "The Blonde Bombshell Show" (non-no show and request for Gwen, my nan). I could also try to claim that they were shocked they had a listener. Their exact words were "We've got a request, it's been a long time since we've had one of these" - but it's a bit indirect. Oh well.
SCORE - 8 points

TONY scores 8 points for his Dave Killingback appearance - non-No Show appearance, request (Dave played Tony "Days Like These" by Scarce, which we had played the week before for Tony, and Tony was well proud that he told Killingback where the Scarce CD was on the rack...), winning something (Smashing Pumpkins CD) and speaking in the appearance. However, a further 2 points are still available for Tony on this round if his Smashing Pumpkins CD ever actually turns up. Tony also dropped points on this round for only having tape evidence of part of the appearance. He claims he plugged the No Show and "talked for hours"... sorry mate, no tape evidence, no points. Harsh, but fair.
SCORE - 8 points (with 2 suspended until the CD arrives)

ROUND TWO

TOM scores a massive 23 points for one 2 minute conversation with Julie Lovell on her "Breakfast with Jules" Show. A non No Show appearance, speaking with Julie herself, winning tickets to a preview showing of 'Being John Malkovich', the tickets actually turning up, a sterling No Show plug (speaking about Pinochet being let off, I said "It's a No Show for justice!" ... so subtle, yet so good. Julie Lovell was also absolutely flabbergasted that she had a listener. Ten solid points. Tom compounded his score with two further appearances. He gathered a non No Show and a request (3 points) from Charles Dassonville's rather marvellous "Croissants and Toast", and also badgered Charles into saying that his French song of the week was only liked by twelve year old girls and him. Finally for this week, Tom was on the "Tom Bowden-Green Earache" - scoring a non No Show, speaking, a solid No Show plug and winning and receiving two Mars bars for knowing the song "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend" by obscure scary metal band Type O Negative. Score for the Earache... 13 points!
SCORE - 39 points!!!

TONY, perhaps daunted by what he knew was going to be a huge week for Tom, did slightly less well. Come on, lad, put your back into it... He began his campaign with the same Julie Lovell show that I was on. Although he had both a Belle and Sebastian record AND the now infamous "Bangers and Ash" cart played for him (2 points each request), his name wasn't actually mentioned. To be honest, it could have been anyone asking Julie to do that, but it blatantly was one of us two, as no-one else could seriously be bothered. Then, Tony appeared on another show, fronted by two blokes. It could have been Rupert and Chris... it could have been Stuart and Matt... anyway, it was two blokes with a non-descript show identity. They too were absolutely gobsmacked that anyone was listening, played "Devil's Haircut" by Beck for him, and allowed him to win some 'Being John Malkovich tickets even though neither he nor them knew the answer to their phone-in question. It's a big seventeen points.
SCORE - 21 points (with 2 suspended as his CD has
still not turned up)
