In the wee hours of July 4th, 2003, Team Test Bot packed up and drove the 264.7 miles to Salisbury, NC for 2 days of bot chaos. We came home with a total record of 4-4. We carted(actually, bagged and pocketed) Test Bot 1.8 and VCA. Unfortunately, my camera pooped out near the end of the first day, otherwise this event report would be longer =( |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The pre-event "Everything's pretty and stuff" shot. It's not gonna stay this way, especially for Test Bot =). You can see VCA's new weapon, a servo lifter.
I caught this shot right off I-85 nea Charlotte, North Carolina. This can NOT be appreciated with a 1 megapixel camera :( The aura around the sun was amazing.
In our pit table, both of the bots charging up. You can see Test Bot's other side skirt that I haven't mounted yet. Test Bot, sans wedge and skirt, fits snugly into my school bookbag. Easy transport =) |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Pits and the arena, before people started coming in. As you can see, most of the area is empty. This was shot from my pit table in the dark, musty corner ='(
Decapitator, from Team Killer Squirrels, a local Atlanta team. Spinning bar in front, steel side wedges, big honking Ti rear. And it was green.
The team Logicom camp. Phrizbee(pretty beat up and retiring) on the table, UberPhrizbee (not its actual name :) under it. Mad Dog, Chopper's brother, to the right.
I think I'm gonna HWORF. Undercutting middleweight spinner.
The 12lb tree. I had to get this image big enough to read. As you can see, Test Bot gets a bye, then wins by forfeit. Then it fought Flight Risk, that won against Dagger. Ow.
Dagger and Flight Risk. FR is the one with the big orange gasoline engine(yes, a gas engine) spinning the big blade. Dagger is the low clamshell lifter that used a hula hoop as a strategic weapon this match. It didn't work =(
The antweights during the 2-hour break. VCA fought a MegaBloks toy hack, then Yee-Haw, a bot made from some kind of metal mesh, then Ducati, a spinner, that Maulered after a hit. It lost to the Mailman after getting the crud pushed out of it, and W.M.D after getting tipped over backwards in 15 seconds.
Well, my camera acted up following the ants. So no pics from day 2 :( :( :( Winners: 12lb P.I.T.B 30lb Killabyte 60lb: Code:Black 120lb: Hworf 220lb: Bambulance 340lb: Wild Child. |

This was taken after the event. Guess who had to fight Flight Risk =) During our 10-15 second match, Flight Risk ripped the entire front panel out of Test Bot. Broke 1 hinge, cut through both sheets of .1 6061 aluminum, and pulled out 14 6-32 screws. Our master link popped out, so I tapped out.I duct tape repaired the wedge for our losers bracket match with Mr. Fluffles, a 12lb pusher. Unfortunately, the wedge was tweaked, so we lost that one :( Well, this concludes an excellent event. Test Bot shall rise again for the next event! Expect a plan to be up soon.... This shall not happen again!! |
