Bleeker Street Studios
NYC - Fall 1983
This is the only recording with Syd Sludge on vocals in existence. [Chris didn't know about the '1st Out Group tape' that I had - DJ]  Looking back, I think this is our best hardcore recording.  Whether it was self-conscious reckoning or a concerted effort - when the Out Group reformed with Syd on vocals once again, we started playing tunes more stylistic of the genre.  Creatively speaking, we never really had forced anything up to this point, so I think all of us had mixed feelings about where it was headed.  Regardless, the session captures some great moments.  Among them:  'I Hate Mike' written about Syd's brother, Mike Woods - chorus; "I hate Mike he's a mother, I hate Mike he's my brother".  On 'Ronald Reagun', Syd shrieks, "Nancy is a bitch and Ronald is a little fucking whore".  Nice.  And finally, 'Mad Maller', a tune written about a highly-publicized serial killer who stalked northern New Jersey malls for would be abductees throughout the early 80s.  'I Hate Authority' is arguably the best song on the tape.  Syd Sludge is brilliant on this recording and anyone who ever loved Mental Abuse should check it out.
