Martin has been the James' butler for a long time and is quite close to Annie, even sharing a special handshake with her. He, too, has always known of Hallie, and after hearing who she really was after the switch, he cried because he was so happy to see her. When invited along with Liz and Hallie to San Francisco, he met and fell in love with Chessy (Hallie's 'butler'). Chessy and Martin assisted the twins in their matchmaking scheme, and, at Liz and Nick's second wedding, Martin proposed to Chessy.
