12 offensive and defensive principles to learn and remember through the season. If you can remember these through you hockey career you'll do OK. |

|
|
Defending/Defensive Responsibilities |
|
|
|
1. Never pass the puck toward or across the front of your own net. |
|
|
|
2. Always use the boards when clearing the puck out of the defensive zone. |
|
|
|
3. One defenceman should be in front of our net (stick on the ice) when the puck is deep in the defensive zone. |
|
|
|
4. Angle opponents into the corner below the goal line. If you are unsure what angling means please have a look in the terms section of the site |
|
|
|
5. Wingers position in the defensive zone should be inside the opposing defenceman with stick on the ice. |
|
|
|
6. Always skate hard to backcheck and help out in the defensive zone. |
|
|
|
7. Angle opponents to the boards in all 1 on 1 forechecking. |
|
|
|
Attacking/Offensive Responsibilities |
|
|
|
1. Get the puck deep into the attacking/defensive zone. |
|
|
|
2 Defenceman no deeper than the top of the circles in the offensive zone. |
|
|
|
3. If no pass or shot from the point in the offensive zone, dump the puck deep into the strong side corner. |
|
|
|
4. The 2nd player into the offensive zone goes to the net. (1st player is carrying or goes to the puck) |
|
|
|
5. The 3rd player into the offensive zone goes up high. (Top of the slot). |
