My Ungrateful Ghost

they held their hands in silent laps
heads down
eyes drifting towards the dead
thoughts of praise, release and joy
flutter
the cars proceed
to the burial ground
they cry in the rain
"it wasn't her time to go!"
oh not so fast, my dears
it was long overdue
do you
play my favorite songs
read my poetry aloud?
did the unexpected show up
to show their respects
though i'd rather it be them in the ground?
do you weep, though i plead that you don't
my name caught in the lumps of their throats
or is the reality so much different...
3 people attend, only because they had to
pay for the coffin
and want to see where their money goes--
(straight to hell)
all my things go into storage, though there wasn't much--
my dog goes to a shelter
my hedgehogs to a friend
my computer with all my writing, back to the manufacturer
(since it's not paid off)
my memory forgotten
everyone's at bliss.
