The following is the official description of the show from the Fox website:

In the coming year, 306 people will be hit by lightning, 511 people will be carjacked and 217 people will be attacked by sharks. But only four people will endure them all, and much more. Meet THE PITTS, the unluckiest family in the world.

THE PITTS is a half-hour comedy that revolves around an average American family dealing with life's little problems -- except when you're a Pitt, there's no such thing as a little problem. Their fearless leader is BOB PITT (Dylan Baker), a good-natured guy who just thinks his family has a little extra bad luck  kind of like the Kennedys, but without the good looks and the millions of dollars. No matter what horrible tragedy strikes them, Bob looks at the bright side and figures that things could always be worse. Even when Satan possesses his son, Bob feels that, "You've got to take that 666 and turn it into 999."

Bob and his perky wife LIZ (Kellie Waymire) work together at the local Mailboxes & More, Plus. Liz loves Bob for his eternally optimistic outlook on life, although she wishes he weren't quite so trusting. They have a 12-year-old son, PETEY (David Henrie), who thinks the random stuff that happens to them is far cooler than it is creepy. On the flip side, there is their daughter FAITH (Lizzy Caplan), a 15-year-old who is terminally embarrassed by her family's constant stream of larger-than-life crises. Her goal is to make it through one week without being the headline of the school newspaper.

But no matter what disaster the Pitts face, they always face it together. This is one family whose members know they can count on each other when the chips are down. Or when they are struck by lightning while flying kites at the beach. Or when their station wagon is swallowed by a sinkhole in the driveway. Or when they are abducted by aliens. Or attacked by birds. Or when?

Mike Scully and Julie Thacker-Scully (?The Simpsons?) are creators/executive producers of THE PITTS, which is a 20th Century Fox Television production.
