A ONE WORD PRAYER - JESUS Written by: Evangelist Gwendolyn C. Reid June 27, 2000 |

What is your definition of prayer? What does it mean to you? I checked Webster, but found that the definition didn't satisfy me. Then out of the depths of my spirit I gained this definition for prayer. Prayer is simply telling God your heart's desires and expressing thanks to Him for your blessings. Did you know that you don't have to make prayer an elaborate or programmed endeavor? Prayer doesn't have to follow a set formular. Just imagine that you are in danger and you don't have time to think of all the things that we've been told make up a proper prayer. What do you do? What do you say? This is my suggestion to anyone. Use the most powerful component of any prayer. Use the name of Jesus. I recall an incident that involved my daughter and I. We were on our way home from the base where I was working in Japan. We looked both ways and once we determined that it was clear we pulled out into the intersection and prepared to cross it. Suddenly out of the corner of my eye I saw a car coming out of no where. It was traveling well over the speed limit and coming straight at us. Before we could get out of the way the car was right there. I knew that without a miracle we would be gone. And then that's when it happened. I was able to say only one word. I said, "Jesus" and I heard my daughter sitting next to me saying "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus." She was saying it faster than I've ever heard it before or since. That one word gave us the miracle that we needed. It was as if our car was suddenly lifted up, and in a flash we were across the intersection. We looked to see where the car was that had moments before been barreling down on us. It shot by and was gone almost before we could look over our shoulders. We were safe and giving God the praise. We didn't have time for anything except calling on the name of Jesus. It was what I call a complete prayer rolled into one word. I don't know your situation, but I do know that whatever you are facing the power in the name of Jesus is the answer. It is a one word prayer. All you have to do is pray it from the heart. |
