| Before choosing your puffer, you must research on the puffer you intend to buy. Your puffer may have special water requirements, may grow very huge and ect. You also have to prepare your tank for the puffer. You have to cycle your tank and make adjustments like converting your tank to a brackish condition if you are planning to keep brackish puffers. When choosing your puffer, check the condition of the tank that houses all the puffer. If there are any sick or dead puffers lying around, do not buy the puffers from that tank. The puffer that you pick should be active. Puffers that lie at the bottom of the tank all the time is a sign that it is sick. Check the puffers for clouded eyes, clamped fins and other symptoms of disease. It is important to check that their belly, if it looks deflated, it is a sign that it is not feeding properly or sick. It is ok to buy puffers which fins are nipped as it will heal. Under crowded shipping conditions, it is normal for the puffer to be stressed and fin-nipped. You may take a long time to choose a healthy puffer but its worth it as you don't want to buy any ill puffers! |
