Endymion
By: Eternal Angel

An angel sent me too you
Telling me that I was suppose to love you
I resisted loving you
Not wanting too
But as the days pass
I wondered how I could have ever felt that way

                - Eternal Angel

Endymion.  That name was strong and high.  Powerful and wise.
The perfect name for the future king of earth.  His dark hair and dark
ocean blue eyes had made him into perfection.  He had many admirers.
Yet
he could careless about them.  His heart was like stone.  He felt
nothing
for no one.  He cared for only himself.

Himself only.  It wasn't his fault though.  For what would you
act like to watch your parent's die when you were small?  To hear their
cries… To see them get hurt and be unable to stop it.

He had now taken over the role of king, even though he would not
be called that until he was 21, considered an adult to take over the
whole kingdom, which he still did even though he was 18.

He was bitter and cold.  Never warming up to people.  They didn't
know why.  Why did they have such a cold and bitter prince.  When he
became king, he would be cruel to them all…  That was something that
they
feared the most.  Yet they didn't understand.  They didn't understand
what it felt to lose the people that you loved most when you are at the
peak of your innocents.  To know that you are useless to save them, to
protect them.  That all you could do was sit down and watch.  Watch them
die in front of you.

He didn't want to love.  Not because he didn't feel attracted to
any of the ladies that came to him, yet he was afraid that once he had
let them have his heart, it would ended up hurt and twisted in one way
or
another.  He didn't want to take the risk of getting hurt again.  It was
just too painful.  The scars of his parent's death were still deep and
un-healing.

He trusted no one, because he had once… but she betrayed him…
hurt him so much.  She did this when he was very venerable.  Having lost
he parents, and was all alone, she came in.  She said that she loved
him…
that she actually cared.  What lies they were.  Lies that hurt him, that
made him swear to never love again.

Endymion entered the royal gardens.  The roses seemed to be at
their peak of bloom.  He heard some noise and looked up from the red
roses to see a glint of gold.  He frowned as he heard another giggle as
he felt movements of something going past him.

"Who's that?"  He asked, as he turned around.  Yet the person was
gone.  He frowned as something caught her eye.  A star locket.  That
person must have dropped it.  He thought, as he picked up.  Its
beautiful
melody began to play as he looked at it in awe.

The music was enchanting, as he felt mesmerized by its grace and
beauty.  So filled with love... He frowned as he closed it.  Love.  That
word had no meaning to him.  It was just a crazy emotion that would get
you distracted… and he didn't want to get distracted… no, not at all.
Love was something he didn't care for… or what he didn't want to care
for… actually, he had wanted to love; yet his arrogant self-esteem made
sure that he didn't.  Because he had been to hurt…

*       *       *       *       *       *       *       *       *

The cool night's air welcomed him.  The stars high above, and the
moon shining the brightest of them all.  He sat down next to the cherry
blossom tree that was blossoming beautifully.  His head up high yet his
thoughts were low.  The cold wind rustled against his skin, making him
shiver lightly.  He didn't noticed the girl that gracefully went and sat
next to him, not saying a thing until the eerie silence finally got onto
her nerves.

"I don't see how you could look up at the beautiful sky, and not
say a thing about its beauty.  I always thought of it as magical."  She
finally said.  As he looked to his right to see her.  She had golden
blond hair that seemed to glow in the dark.  He could barely see her
deep
blue eyes with the moon as his only light, get the moonlight was enough
to see her beauty.

"What is there to comment about it?  I have seen the sky for
almost every night of my life.  I seen it elegance, its beauty for many
years…  Isn't that enough?"  He replied back.  She just smiled lightly
to
him.

"Yes, but what would you do without it?  What if one night, you
look up and you don't see the stars in the sky, the beautiful planets…"
He finished the sentenced off for her.  "And the bright beautiful moon."

"Yes… what would you do?"  She asked him.  She waited for an
answer, but only silence replied her back.  He thought hard, trying to
think of the right answer…

"I don't know what I would do…  It would be a shame to lose the
thing that we don't appreciate…  Yet I will appreciate it now…"  He
said,
the silence between them began once more, and this time she didn't
interrupted it.

Hours must have past before the blond finally stood up.  "It was
nice to meet you Endymion… but I must go.  Good bye, and good luck!"
She
said, as she started to walk away.  He watched her leave, as he looked
up
at the wonderful moon once again.

And then he headed back into his palace, before the sun had risen
up from the night sky, shining brightly like always…

*       *       *       *       *       *       *       *       *

For the next couple of days, instead of siting in solitude the
mysterious girl would appear to sit next to him.  He never gave her any
notice.  Not wanting her to know that he looked forward to her coming.
Yet, when she didn't, he felt a little disappointed yet put no notice
into it.  He didn't care…  He didn't want to care.

One night, when the two were siting quietly, the star locket that
he had found one day had fallen out of his pocket, and started to play
it's melody, filling the silence with it's elegance and beauty.

"So I see that you found my star locket Endymion."  She said to
him, looking up at him.  A smile played on her lips as it did every time
he saw her.  He felt a twinge of jealousy that she could be happy… that
she was so happy… and he never felt this.

"Yes.  I found it one day in the gardens… Here you are…"  He
handed her the locket back.  Yet all she did was shake her head no.
"It's alright… you keep it.  I would only lose it again.  Just take care
of it Endymion… so you could remember me…"

"Thank you."  He replied back.  Looking up at the sky once more.
He could hear her sigh softly once more.  As if she was disappointed.
"Can I ask you something?"

"Ask away Endymion."  She responded, happy that there wasn't the
usual silence.  "What is your name… you know mine, but I don't know
yours."

"I'm Serenity."  She replied back.  Then looked up at the moon
and back down to Endymion.  She noticed how he never smiled.  He never
showed any emotions in his face.  As if he wore a mask everyday with no
expression on his face except one that is angry of the world.

"Serenity…"  He whispered, then looked away from her, going back
into his little world.  She wanted to break him from that world… she
wanted to tell him that she had fallen in love with him… yet she
couldn't.

*       *       *       *       *       *       *       *       *

He didn't know how that night ended up in tears… except that it
was his entire fault.  All his fault…  He could still recall her face as
she confessed to him her love…

His head jerked when he heard it.  He didn't know what happen
next…  He wanted to hurt her… like he was hurt by love.  "You?  Love me?
Is this a joke or something Serenity?  For you to be capable of loving
me?  You are just like everyone else in my life…  Lying about love…
wanting to hurt me.  Why should I believe that you love me?  Why should
I
truly care?"

She bit back tears and didn't reply back.  She finally spoke up.
"You are right Endymion.  Maybe I am foolish for falling in love with
you.  It must have been some mistake…  But you know what?  Until now, I
never regretted falling for you.  But now I see it was useless."

She continued on, hurt in her every word.  "Now I wonder why I
ever fallen for you.  I thought that maybe you had some love in you… yet
I was wrong… so terribly wrong."

"I'm glad that you finally know that now.  I wonder what ever
made you think that I would be in love with you?  You are just like
everyone else in this world… cold hearted and cruel."  Endymion stated,
knowing it was all a lie.

"So be it Endymion.  I know that I'm not the one that is so cold
hearted and cruel.  Your every word is like a dagger deep inside my
heart.  You are right, why did I ever think that you would have fallen
in
love with me…  Good-bye Endymion.  I hope I never see you again."  With
that, she disappeared into the sky, as a beam of light hit the moon.

And, not knowing why, he wept.  He wept when she left him; he
wanted to tell her that all of it was a lie.  That he did care for her.
He cared for her that he would fly to the moon to see her…  Yet it was
too late.  It was his entire fault.  His Serenity was gone now.  Gone
away forever as her last words echoed through his mind.

        "Good-bye Endymion… I hope I never see you again…"

He could feel his heart breaking once more… yet this time he knew
it wasn't Serenity's fault, or anyone else's… it was his fault.  He was
the one that brought this pain to him.  He was the one that made him
suffer like this…

*       *       *       *       *       *       *       *       *

He tried to ignore the feelings that were inside of him.  He
would come every night to their spot, just hoping that it was all a
dream, or that she forgave him… yet she never did appear.  He could feel
his heart breaking more, yet all he did was become meaner and cold in
the
outside.  The only thing that could make him calm down, and come back to
his senses was the star locket that she had given to him.

The locket would remind him so much of her… in a good way.  Her
beauty, such as her clear bright blue eyes that were so filled with
light.  Her golden blond hair, which was usually in two buns or
'meatballs', he noted with a soft smile.  And her profile that he wished
he could have traced…

Serenity.  His mind always thought of her.  And other than the
locket, the only link that he had to her was the glorious moon.  Her
home.  It was almost as beautiful as she was… almost…

"Prince Endymion…  The Queen of the moon had invited you to the
ball in held for her daughter's engagement…" His general, Kunzite said.
Endymion's head jerk towards him with shock, surprise, and hurt in his
face.

"You mean Princess Serenity's engagement?"  He asked hoarsely.
He couldn't believe it.  No, it wasn't true, he thought.  Why would she
do this to him?  "Yes, Princess Serenity." Kunzite replied.

His heart shattered in many pieces… to many to be fixed.
"Endymion?"  Kunzite asked him, as he felt a hand on his shoulder.  He
struggled off his friend's comforting offer, and fumed.

"She did this on purpose!!  She knew that I loved her!!"  He
exclaimed wildly.  "Just like everyone else!!  She is just like them!"
He fought back tears, as he knew that every word out of her mouth was
false.  It was his fault that she was with someone else…  She didn't
know
that he loved her… it was the opposite…  He knew that she loved him.
And
she wasn't like everyone else…  No, she was special, so special…

Kunzite just looked at his friend with a look symphony.  Yet he
didn't understand.  He didn't understand how it felt to be alone like
this.  To not have anyone to love you… and the one that had loved you,
and you wanted to love you, had left you because of you…

*       *       *       *       *       *       *       *       *

The ball was elegant.  As beautiful decorations of silver and
blue hung onto the walls, and the ceilings.  Endymion stiffly looked
around the palace gloomy, instead of in awe like his generals.  He had
to
admit it was beautiful, yet it didn't matter to him.  All that mattered
was that his princess was getting married to someone else… and he wanted
to put a stop at that.  He had decided that awhile ago.  Knowing that
this is the only way that he would ever be happy.

He could see some girls staring at him with such admiration, yet
he ignored them.  He didn't care for them… only for Serenity.  Serenity,
he had seen her straight away.  Her hair was put up in the traditional
style, two buns, and she was in a beautiful silver dress, which didn't
have sleeves.  The neck of the dress was a straight as it exposed most
of
her back.  It flowed down in a smooth manner, as a big bow was on the
back of her waist.  She wore long gloves that went high past her elbows.
She stood next to another blond, whose hair was put up by a red ribbon.
She wore an orange dress that seemed to fit her perfectly.  He came up
close to them, enough to hear them without being spotted.

"I can't believe you are gonna get married to my brother!!  I
mean, finally you saw how much he cares for you!  This is gonna be so
cool!  You and me sisters!!"  The blond friend gust excitedly, making
Serenity giggle.

"Come on Minako.  You are suppose to be the princess of Venus,
act at like royalty a little."  Serenity said, smiling at her friends.
Yet when he looked at her eyes, he could see sadness in them.  "You are
like a sister to me anyways, even if I don't marry Galen…"

"Aww… really?"  Minako said a little moved by her words that she
said softly.  "Did you hear that the prince of Earth is here?  I heard
that he was major hunky…"

He could see her stiffen as she heard about him coming to the
ball.  He could see an alone tear roll down her cheek as she quickly
wiped it off.  Her friend then left, saying something about spotting
this
cute guy…

She was finally alone.  He thought, as he came up to her.  She
gasped as she saw him.  "Endymion."  She whispered, as she ran outside,
him following her.  He had followed her into the gardens, that was
filled
with beautiful flowers… yet the one flower he did not see was the rose.

"Serenity."  He said, as she stopped.  "Serenity… I'm sorry about
that other day.  I didn't mean too.  It's just that I was afraid."  He
waited.  He wanted her to turn around and come into his arms…  Yet, that
wasn't what she did…

"I don't want to listen to you Endymion."  She said his name
icily.  "I should go back into the ball before my fiancée gets worried
about me."  She said to him, then started to leave, as he grabbed her
hand.

"No, Serenity.  Please, let me talk to you."  She said nothing in
reply.  She just closed her eyes and was quiet.  "I love you, I really
do.  I was just afraid.  I just didn't know if these feelings were true.
You see, I had been hurt so much when I was young and I didn't know if
I
could love you…  I didn't want to love you…  But it turned out that I
did."

"Endymion,"  She started out.  "You think you could just tell me
those words and we will be fine?  No Endymion, it is not okay.  I never
did stop loving you, but I am not going to give you my heart again.
You'll just break it again.  And I am not risking it.  Galen loves me
more than you will ever."

"Yes, but do you love him?"  Endymion asked in reply.   Silence
filled the air until she finally spoke up.  "I will.  I will love him
sooner or later.  And that is good enough for me.  And I'll be damned if
I ever love you once more Endymion."  She said, as pain filled his soul
with every word she said.  She finally got her wrist out of his strong
grip and ran back into the ballroom.

*       *       *       *       *       *       *       *       *

Endymion sulked in the chair as he watched his Serenity dance
with Galen.  'Not my Serenity anymore.'  He thought bitterly.  'Galen's
Serenity.'  Never had he felt so much pain, hurt, and jealousy in his
life.  Yet he brought it among him.  And no matter how hard he tried, he
won't be able to heal this wound.

"Well, well, well."  A voice said from the doorway.  Her blood
shot eyes pierced everyone in the room as her hair was a ruby red color.
"My, my Serenity,"  She said to the queen.  "This celebration and you
didn't invite me?  Though that is all right, I always liked to crash the
party."

"Beryl."  Was the only word that escaped the Queen's mouth.

"Why princess, you look so beautiful.  I bet you don't remember
me huh?  I bet your mother didn't tell you who I am…" The woman said
looking at Serenity.  Serenity looked backed wide eyed as Endymion
wanted
to embrace her, saying everything was going to be alright, that he was
going to protect her.

        And then chaos corrupted.

*       *       *       *       *       *       *       *       *

He followed Serenity, as she headed towards the royal garden with
calmness, as if she had been prepared for this a long time ago.
"Endymion, you can stop following me."  She said to me with a cold tone
in her voice.  He stepped out of the shadows.

"Serenity… why can't you forgive me?  You even say that you still
love me… and I love you.  Why can't you do what your heart says?"  He
asked her, as a smirk appeared onto her soft lips, which he longed to
kiss.

"Why Endymion?  Do what my heart says?  Is this softness I see?"
She asked in a mocking tone.  "Well, I my biggest mistake was loving
you
Endymion.  Something I wish that had never happened.  Why Endymion, you
look so surprise.  Why?  You are surprise that I could be this cold and
mean…  But Endymion, it is you whom taught me this.  You had made me
like
this."

"Serenity…" He said, yet was interrupted by a familiar voice once
more.  "Why princess, what a lovely speech…  I bet you hurt him real
bad…
but wouldn't it be better to hurt him physically?  Not emotionally?"

Beryl threw down a sword.  "Here… why don't you?"  Serenity just
looked up with wide eyes.  "You wouldn't dare huh?  So soft and
innocent,
all your words that you just told him was fake, huh?  Don't worry, if
you
aren't going to hurt him…  I will."

He heard Serenity let out a surprised gasp.  He waited for
Beryl's attack… that would have been better than all this pain that he
was receiving.  Yet her words seemed to stay in his mind…  All the words
you just told him was fake…  He wondered if that was true…

The sword headed towards him as he waited for the pain.  Yet he
felt no pain… maybe dying didn't hurt that much.  But he heard Beryl's
gasp and the sword clang onto the floor as he looked in front of him.
Serenity had taken the hit herself.

She laid on the ground, clutching her side.  As Beryl looked at
her with wide eyes.  "Serenity… No… I didn't mean too…  Serenity…" Beryl
said, as she backed away trembling.  With that, she disappeared.

Endymion gently held her in his arms.  "You know, she's right.
She's right all of that was a lie…  I don't ever regret loving you… I
only regret not being able to love you more…  But was that true about
what you said about loving me?  Do you really Endymion?"  She asked with
so much curiosity.

"I love you so much that I can't describe you how much I love
you."  He whispered, as she smiled softly.  He knew that she was trying
hard no to show the pain that she was going through.  Yet, he noticed
the
flash of expressions past her face, and how quickly the blood sunk into
the silver dress.

"I love you too Endymion…  Never forget me…" She said, as he
could feel her body become stiff and lifeless.  "No!!"  He cried, as he
cradled her in his arms.  He whispered contently into her ears, knowing
that she was gone.

This hurt more than seeing his parent's die in front of him, and
Serenity hurt expression, and her telling him that she didn't love him.
He looked at the discarded sword that seemed to lay before him, streaked
with Serenity's blood.

"Don't worry, I will never forget you…" He thrusted the sword
into him as he could feel pain in him.  Yet a smile played on his lips
as
he thought that he and his Serenity would finally be together again.

As he feel down next to his princess, the star locket fell out of
his pocket, playing it's content melody once more as it fulfills a wish
that the two lovers had made…

        To be together again…

*Present Day - Tokyo*

He saw her again, as she ran the streets of Tokyo, yelling how
she was late for school once more.  His princess…  She changed much, but
he was much the same…  And so was his story.  Yet, just knowing that she
was out there, waiting for him, made life worth living. He held the star
locket contently in his hand as he whispered softly.  "This time, I'm
going to make it right…"

"Hey, Mamoru-san, snap out of it?  Talking to yourself *again*?"
Motiko said teasingly.  Mamoru looked at his best friend for a moment.
And then smiled in reply.  "Well… maybe I am…"

"Sure…  Hey, at least you don't talk to cats…" Motiko said with a
smile as he polished the counter.

"Now, tell me who talks to cats."  Mamoru asked curiously.

"Why, my best customer of course… Tsukino Usagi."

END

Hmm…  I hoped you like that.  Actually, I thought it was cool.
Lots  of Endymion's emotions, even though it wasn't a stand-alone.  You
know what I mean.
