Worthen `````````````````````````````````````````````````` "I don't love you... love you... love you..." The awful words echoed in her head as she stared out the window. The image played in her mind. The way his eyes pierced hers with anger and hate and the way he stiffened up at her approach. "I need you, Darien, even if you don't love me." Serena sniffed and wiped her tears away. Her Mom would be calling her for dinner soon. Racing to school, Serena pinned up her hair, "I'm going to be sooo late!" She puffed as she rounded the corner, "Ahhh...oaf!" Serena bumped against a hard body and fell to the cement on her rear-end. Ignoring the pain beneath her, Serena quickly got up and bowed apologetically to the person she bumped into, "Gomen... Gomen, I wasn't-" She stopped when she looked up. Darien's dark blue eyes were looking down on her with amusement but that look didn't stay. He quickly hardened his eyes, practically glaring at her, "You're going to be late." He didn't even say something sarcastic about her bumping into him. Serena nodded as tears threatened to come to her eyes. She ran past him before he could see her tears. 'I don't love you...' Echoed in her ears. Sitting in an arcade booth, Serena watched the people come and leave the small café. She was early today since Ms. Haruna had a trip to go on with her new boyfriend. Serena stared at her vanilla shake for a while before taking a small sip. She looked up again and saw Lita, Amy and Mina walk in. They didn't see her since she purposely sat herself in the back corner of the arcade. They looked around but once they didn't find what they were looking for they said hi to Andrew, the manager of the arcade/café, and left. Serena sighed gratefully. She really didn't want to talk to them right now. She didn't want to put on a happy face and pretend that she was okay and that everything would be fine. Darien walked in and sat at the counter. He started talking to Andrew before ordering a coke. Serena stared at his back with a sorrowful expression on her face. She lost him. She didn't know how she did it but she did. She must have done something awful to make him hate her so much. She tried to come up with some things she did or said wrong. Several came up but none of those certainly would make him hate her. Did she tell someone about his past? No. Did she say something that offended him? No. Did she not love him enough? Serena shook her head. She loved him the best she could. Darien turned around and looked strait at her as if he knew exactly where she was the whole time. Serena started in her seat before looking away, blushing at being caught staring. She heard his footsteps approach her booth before she found him sitting across from her. Serena stared cautiously at him, wondering what he would say now. Would he simply tell her to get over him and stop making such a scene by staring stupidly at him like a lovesick puppy? Flashes of the time before they really knew each other appeared in her view. She could certainly imagine him saying that back then. Maybe he still had an edge to him. A second later she saw a moment in time where Darien wrapped his arm around her waist as they sat on a bench watching the sunset. She remembered how his hand found it's way to her hair as it played with her ponytails. "Serena." Serena snapped out of her thoughts and nearly burst out crying when she came back to her harsh reality. Why couldn't he love her like that anymore? "Huh?" "Are you okay?" Serena stared at him, incredulous. He was asking if she was okay?! Did he really care for her? Was this a dream? Serena opened her month to say 'I'm fine now that you're here' but that thought struck her as too clingy and besides she just might be taking his caring question the wrong way. Should she just say 'yes, I'm fine' or should she tell him the truth? Serena looked away from him. She couldn't lie to him if she was looking at him in the eyes. "I'm fine." Her voice came out groggy and unconvincing. She wished her voice was stronger but with him so close... she just couldn't be herself. Darien nodded once then twice. She took one look at him and she knew that he didn't believe her, "Well, Andrew asked me to talk to you for a second to make sure you're okay. He seemed a little worried." Serena swallowed hard. So he wasn't doing this because he cared. Serena felt tears come into her eyes. She tried to will them away but they wouldn't mind! She hid her eyes from Darien's view, "I'm fine." She repeated. And then he was gone. Darien walked to the arcade door, not even stopping to say goodbye to Andrew, he walked out into the afternoon sun. He turned around and looked through the window. He could see Serena's head bent over the table. Her shoulders shook as a sob racked her body. I'm sorry Serena. I'm so sorry. He turned and walked back to his lonely haunted apartment. His heart begged him to go back and hold her and tell her that he was still there and that he loved her more than anything! But his mind and feet wouldn't let him. It was almost as if his heart was trapped in this hateful body that purposly tourchered his soul and pained his heart. He stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and watched the couples pass by him. A vision of Serena hanging onto his arm and pointing out the great stores that she wanted to see flashed into his mind. He remembered how he didn't even know exactly what she was saying. All he thought of was the way she felt next to him and her sweet perfume. He snapped out of it and walked away, leaving his love to cry. The End. ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Well? This story was extremely short but that's okay! What did you think? Kind of short and sad, huh? I kind of wanted to bonk Darien on the head and say "Get back there!" But of course, since I'm the author... ::Sniff:: I couldn't do it! After all you have to give him a choice, ne? Note 1: This will be my last story I write for a while since we're moving and my Dad is cutting off the Internet. ::Sniff:: I'm going to miss writing for you guys soooo much!
