The Ram Band is from John Marshall High School in San Antonio, Texas. The band has 220 members and is under the leadership of head director Rey Meza and assistant director George DeRocher.
The 1999-2000 band was invited and played in Washington D.C. for the American Musical Salute on the White House Ellipse and the Lincoln Memorial.
During the 2000 Fiesta week, the Ram Band participated in the Battle of the Flowers Band Competition and received the Best Marching and Spirit Award, given to the band who showed the best preparedness in marching, music, behavior, and organization. The band also received second place in the Battle of the Flowers Parade.
In August of 2001, Red McCombs, the owner of the Minnesota Vikings, specifically invited the Ram Band to play at the Vikings vs. Saints preseason game in the Alamodome. The band performed at halftime.
In the spring of 2003, the band won first place in the Battle of Flowers Parade. The band was also invited and participated in the Main Street Parade at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida.
Other acheivements of the Ram Band include marching in the Rose Bowl Parade in the 1970's, appearing in the movie Rolling Thunder, and receiving First Division ratings in marching for 40 consecutive years. |
