| Magmatron Retail: $29.99 (Target Exclusive) - Got him at Target after looking forever. A Japanese Dinobot combiner. Splits into 3 alternate beast forms: Landsaur, Skysaur, and Seasaur. Before I start, I want to clarify why I label him a Predacon. Number one, he is a Destron (an elite Predacon team) in the Japanese Beast Wars Neo TV show. Number two, the toy has Predacon sparks (3 of them, for each component of Magmatron). Number three, the name Magmatron is obviously a spin-off of the name Megatron. On a side note- Magmatron is a pain in the neck to transform the first time, but you get used to it as you transform it more. Just letting ya know. Color Scheme= Landsaur is mainly navy blue, silver, and gray with some assorted other colors to help with merging of the dinosaurs. Skysaur is red, yellow, and a light golden brown. Both Landsaur and Skysaur have green eyes. Seasaur is aqua with some dark blue accents. Seasaur has yellow eyes. Predictable dinosaur colors. Beast Modes= Landsaur: A Gigantosaurus, one of the more newly discovered dinosaurs. He looks pretty accurate with a small head, three-fingered arms, and large legs- features typical of a Gigantosaurus. Magmatron's roller-skate feet kinda hang off the back of his legs though. You can store 1 of the 5 missles that come with Magmatron in his tail. The particular missle looks like a tail bone- good effect. Landsaur's gimmick is that he can shoot missles out of his throat. They fire when you pull his upper head section back. Landsaur's spark is located inside his throat which detaches to form Magmatron's robot gun. Skysaur: According to Dave VanDomelen's sources, Skysaur is indicated to be a Quetzacoatyl. But as pointed out by DVD, he shares nothing in common with that particular dinosaur. Never mind it because I kinda like Skysaur the best. He just looks cool. Skysaur's gimmick is a flapping wing action that occurs when you pull back his tail. He can also hold 2 of the 5 missles that come with Magmatron but can't fire them. Aw... Seasaur: This one is easily recognizable- it's a Pleiosaur, like Nessie the Loch Ness Monster. Easily the most captivating Magmatron component due to the long ball-jointed neck that can swivel around all over the place. However, it tends to fall forward onto the ground because of its jutting-out position. Seasaur's gimmick is a swimming motion that is activated when you squeeze its back legs together. Cool! Third Alternate Mode= As with all the new Ultra and above TF's, Magmatron has a really lame third mode. You combine all the dinos together to form a Prehistoric fuzor-beast thing. Impressive, but weak. Literally weak. Thing falls apart every single time you put it together. Robot Mode= Transformation note: Don't try to snap the peg from Skysaur into Magmatron's chest. Just leave it out behind the chest. It saves a lot of pain. Now this is where you get your money's worth. Magmatron stands a little taller than a Mega and is formed mainly by Landsaur. Skysaur's wings form a Warlord-type helmet for him. His face looks very Warlord like as well, but also has elements of Megatron's face. Too bad that they have you snap Skysaur's legs down so you lose neck turning articulation. Why the turning neck if you're gonna snap it down? Anyway...Magmatron shares the snap-peg hips of BW Silverbolt and BMac Nightscream, but has tighter pegs so he holds together well. In fact, he may be one of the most stable beast robots. Like OpOp, Magmatron has opposable thumbs and holds his sword/gun (formed from Landsaur's neck) using a peg. This doesn't work very well because the thumb gets in the way. I can hardly get the sword positioning to work, but the gun positioning holds okay. However, his elbow is on a wheel that is so stiff it feels like you might break Magmatron's arm off when you move it. Mine will only move one tab without straining. The rest of Seasaur that isn't used in transformation (Seasaur forms the robot arms) snaps onto the left robot arm to form a shield. All in all, the most impressive Japanese dinobot to date. I like him! ~Highly Recommended. A P.S. Magmatron's tech spec motto- "Till all is Won" is a reference to G1, although the sayings meaning is changed somewhat. |
