| HAVE YOU WRITTEN ANYTHING LATELY? Good, because texts such as plays, poetry, essays, stories, novels, graphic novels or comic books, etc. are all perfect candidates for publication through Reina. The submission process is blissfully simple. Just send a .doc attatchment with your masterpiece in it, and you're practically famous! SOME ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES LENGTH In a Word document, formatted in 10pt Times New Roman, doublespaced, a fiction/essay type text should be a minimum of 2 pages, with a maximum reaching towards 45 pages, although there's plenty of flexibility. Say you're compiling a bunch of shorter works into a collection, and you're wondering what the ideal lenghth might be? 25 pages is a perfect balance between economic print runs and awesome, fully developed chapbooks. Poetry and graphic novels are, naturally, very different beasts - poetry in particular could be much shorter. Is visual art more your style? Great, because any form of printable art is also welcome, although such images would be limited to those which could be appropriately reproduced with a laser printer or xerox. Email TheReinaPress@yahoo.com to discuss alternative formats for non-text based publications. Also, anticipate titling your text, possibly writing a dedication or preface if you'd like, and sending some sort of black and white .jpg, .gif or .bmp file which might be used as a cover illustration. Send an email this way and further questions can be answered. Eventually, you will be sent an email questionaire so a profile of you can be written. An adorable black and white cartoon of you will accompany this profile. DEADLINES If you get it in by the 20th of any given month, its possible you'll see it published by the 1st of the next month. If you get it in earlier than the 20th, all the angels of heaven will adore you. DISTRIBUTION AND RIGHTS Just a few legalities before we move on.... First of all, it is necessary to state that this is a NON PROFIT organization. The goal of Reina is not to make money; it is to get things into print, although this has not been officially registered with the federal government because official non-profit status takes a long time. Copyrights would remain in the name of the author. The Reina Press would maintain no rights to distribution or reproduction, all of these would remain the author's rights. Money from the distribution of paper chapbooks would be handled as follows: a) print cost would be calculated and rounded to the dollar b) ticket price would be equal to twice the rounded print cost c) income from chapbook sales would be split 50/50 between the author and The Reina Press print fund. At this early stage in the game, an intitial run of 25 paper chapbooks will be made each month. 2 of these are given to the author because everyone should get a free copy of their book, and everyone should send their mom or grandpa or kindergarten teacher a copy to make them proud. An additional amount (likely between five and ten, per author's request) will be given to the author for the intent of sales, and the remaining 13 would be sold or available for perusal at bookstores and community gathering places. The total projected distribution plan as of now has 3 parts: a) 13 - To be available at area businesses, book stores, and other such venues. b) 5 or more- Sold (at cost) out of backpacks by writers and their buddies to friends, family, and fans. c) An infinite number - If the author consents, texts would also be available on line through our library in a plagiarism-discouraging pdf format. |
