Setting: Los Angeles

Zoe Smith has only a few days to fill out her 400 plus paged application to join the Venerate Council of Protectors. The elementary school librarian is about to turn twenty five and has to make some choices. Her extra sensitive senses are somewhat erratic. She's a halfling, half immortal, half mortal and has to prove herself worthy of membership to be considered a superhero. Situations get really complicated when several mortals find out about her powers. Can Zoe pass her tests before the deadline?

George Bailey Taylor is a former cop, now a private investigator, who ends up falling head over heels for Zoe. She's a bit strange, but so different from other gals he's dated. The truth about her powers begins to come out when he's hired to find a valuable gem. His foster sister and Zoe's best friend are caught in a plot to change the world. Can Taylor accept Zoe as she is?

Julie Kenner has done it again with another fun romance. She creates a plot, you won't believe until you read it. The characters are imaginative and believeable. Zoe has a heck of a time trying to gain control of her powers, and that alone sets some fun scenes throughout the story. Add to that, a ferret chaperone, that can communicate with Zoe's overprotective brother, Hale.

Hoop and Deena, characters from Kenner's previous book, The Cat's Fancy, add their zaniness to the overall plot. When they get together with Taylor and Zoe... watch out. Scenes are descriptive and put you right there with the action. The humor sprinkled throughout the story is great fun and keeps the reader looking for more.

With her sense of humor and offbeat plots, Julie Kenner is a writer with a great future.
