Rachel Chastaine suffered from endometriosis, and she and husband Jake went to a fertility clinic for help. Before in vitro could be done, Rachel and Jake's parents were killed in an auto accident. That was two years ago. For the last six months, Jake's been receiving letters from the clinic thanking him for his donations. When he tries to clear up the matter, he's furious to discover the backup sperm sample meant for his wife was used for another woman. Somewhere out there he has a child and he means to find it and be part of its life.

Annie Hollister has everything she wants now; a small business, close friends and a darling daughter, Madeline. Annie had one bad marriage and rather than risk another, she opted for artificial insemination. The donor is supposed to remain anonymous. Imagine her surprise and fear when a handsome stranger shows up on her doorstep- a man whose features alone, declare him to be Madeline's father.

Jake and Annie have a lot to settle between them and first impressions create more trouble. But the fun begins when Annie ends up hospitalized for an emergency appendectomy, and Jake volunteers to care for his daughter. How hard can it be to care for a fourteen month old child?

Jake' s first hands on experience with a toddler are hilarious. From one page to the next you can't imagine what could happen. Of course, the story also has it's serious moments. Jake's inlaws are struggling with their own marriage, damaged with their daughter's unexpected death. And there's Henry, a retired attorney, living in a nursing home, who helps Annie with legal advice. Another resident of the home, Pearl, is also good for a few laughs. This gal says what she thinks and it can be embarrassing.

Robin Wells has created a marvelous tale of the joys and sorrows of relationships and parenthood. The characters' pain is very real and gives the story depth. It's easy to get involved in the plot. Little Madeline is the center of attention, and helps bring people together.

Baby, Oh Baby! is a heartwarming and humorous story you'll want to keep on your shelf.
