Faith Webb has been having some rather strange dreams lately. She can't understand why she dreams of deserts when she's never been near a major one. A stranger enters her shop, asking questions about a sword, which she claims to know nothing about. When four more men ask the same questions, Faith's shop, as well as her home, end up trashed, and she's dragged into a mystery. An admission from her mother, sets Faith on the trail of the missing Sword of Light and the strange prophecy which goes with it. Faith's life is about to change forever.
Nicholas Kadar Ben Hamad is searching for the Sword of Light, stolen from his father twenty five years earlier. If the sword isn't returned soon, Kadar's father could lose his kingdom, and his life. Clues have led him to believe Faith knows where the sword is, but Faith denys knowing anything about it. Other factions are after the prize, as well, and Kadar will do everything he can to protect Faith. What is so unique about this sword that lives are held in the balance?
Deserts of the Heart is an intriguing fantasy romance. Kadar and Faith eventually discover the similarities of their backgrounds, although it takes some time before Faith learns the truth of her origins, and the meanings of her dreams. Both characters are well developed and gradually come to understand their part in the handling of the mysterious Sword of Light.Secondary characters add life and action to the adventure. You never know when someone may prove to have traitorous intents. Desert travel is vividly described, as well as life of a nomadic tribe. It hardly seems the place for a budding romance to thrive, but there's enough life to sustain it, and help it grow. Interaction between the characters is lively, and deadly, and keeps the story moving at a quick pace. The fantasy surrounding the sword creates a unique subplot and enhances the romance.
Will the prophecy of the Sword of Light finally achieve fulfillment?
