When readers first met Lucian, a two thousand year old Carpathian male, he was leading his twin brother on a not-so-merry chase. There was, definitely, method to his madness.
Lucian has just found his lifemate, and it's going to take a lot of understanding and patience to convince her of her importance in his life. He may not be on the verge of turning vampire, as he convinced his brother, but the darkness within Lucian is becoming harder to contain, and only Jaxx Montgomery can keep it at bay. For Jaxx is the light to Lucian's darkness.
Since she was six years old, Jaxx Montgomery has been trained by her father and Navy Seal buddies. She can run, shoot and track with the best of them. Jaxx's father died when she was seven, and 'Uncle' Tyler married her mother. Something is wrong with Tyler, and he tries to keep everyone away from Jaxx, to the point she dares not have any friends.
Jaxx's tour of duty with the police department puts her in a unique position, and in the path of an unbelievably handsome dark stranger. She cannot be part of his life without putting him in jeopardy, and feels she must either protect him from the killer stalking her, or avoid his company altogether. Jaxx is about to butt heads with the most stubborn male she has ever met. Can she keep him safe, or is Lucian more than she ever imagined?
Christine Feehan continues her tale of the well-known and feared Carpathian twins in her Dark series. No one can surpass the power they have to defeat their enemies. Their people look up to the legendary twins with awe and a little bit of fear mixed in.
Lucian's story goes in a slightly different direction than previous books in this series. The heroines all have their special talents, but none has felt it necessary to protect a Carpathian against a stalker. Jaxx is a tough heroine and brings something different to the role, in this story. There are many facets of her personality to be explored, and each one adds to the tale.
Dark Guardian takes the reader through a more indepth look at the changes brought about in the heroine, when she takes her place (granted, reluctantly) by her lifemate's side. She's in for a learning experience such as she's never encountered before. The story's twists, turns and evasions, keep you reading, to the end of the last page. You have to wonder who will prevail in this battle of wits and determination...the petite police officer trained to guard and protect, or the ancient Dark Guardian?
