Damien Knight, the elder of the Knight twins, is a war hero who prefers a reclusive life, but it's about to be denied him. When one of his officers is found murdered, Damien learns he has been named guardian to the officer's niece. He is surprised to discover the child he was expecting to supervise is actually a lovely young woman. Damien's plan to wed her off as quickly as possible and avoid temptation is about to backfire.

Miranda FitzHubert isn't about to let the famous Lord Winterly marry her off and return to his solitary ways. She's an exuberant miss who won't let anyone or anything stand in the way when she sees something needs to be done. Miranda sees the dark reasons for Damien's withdrawal from society and is determined to reach out to him. Can she tear down the walls surrounding Damien's heart and soul?

Gaelen Foley's recognition by USA Today's Best Seller List is well deserved. She has done it again, with a stunning tale dealing with the aftermath of war. How does a nineteenth century warrior deal with the horrors of battle? Ms Foley's indepth characterization of one man's tormented memories keeps the reader hanging on to every word. She draws you in to Damien's pain, and his fear of any close relationships.

Miranda's feisty attitude gets her into trouble until she finally tells Damien what she's been up against for many years. With her guardian's help, one major problem is quickly solved and Miranda begins to chip away at Damien's personal fortress. This young lady has imagination and determination which aren't easily daunted.

Secondary characters support a murder mystery and attempts on Miranda's life. There are a number of suspects, and possible suitors, intermingling to create an intricate plot of romance and deception.

Despite the intrigue, is Damien Knight as cold as his peers make him out to be? Only the Lord of Ice can provide answers.
