Romantic Comedy
Setting: Springfield, Illinois

Casey MacKenzie is filling in for the lead actress who broke her leg earlier. She's playing the part of a gal who plays a teenage boy. To get a better feeling for the 'boy' part of the role, she remains in costume and goes off to the mall, then skateboarding. While flying on the board, she runs into a man, knocking him into a nearby pond, but he's more concerned with the boy who hit a tree.

Casey has the opportunity to perfect her role as Mike, but she doesn't expect to get involved with Jake Cutter. By asking the right questions, she finds out what his fantasy woman would be like and sets out to fulfill his dreams. One thing leads to another and before you know it, Casey is jumping in and out of three roles leaving poor Jake slightly confused. How long can Casey keep up the charade?

Jake and the Great Imposter blends romance and comedy for some fun entertainment. The plot does have its serious side, though. Jake's past has pretty much destroyed whatever hopes he had for the future. One clue at a time hints at Jake's secret, and slowly reveals his past. You feel the pain of his loss, but also enjoy the lighter moments of his life.

The characters are well defined, and Casey's role jumping adds to the fun. Even when things get out of hand, secondary characters do their part to enhance the plot. Amy Jamieson makes good use of comedy in this story.

Jake and the Great Imposter is a quick read, but well worth the time.
