The Mermaid and the Eagle is a complex story of two people dealing with, and overcoming their pasts. How they handle the present to compensate the past, creates the intriguing plot. Past and current events are alternated until they finally join to reach the story's climax. This technique isn't generally accepted, but Ms Sisk handles it very well, and avoids expected confusion in the shifting back and forth.
The characters, are well developed, and while not always likeable, they draw the reader in and don't let go until the story is done. They get involved in situations which keep the suspense growing until a solution has to be reached.
Will the mermaid be caught by the eagle? You'll have to read the story to find out.
