Callie Burgess isn't your typical female. In fact, she doesn't know what it is to act like a female. She's been on the trail of Lincoln McAllister, with the sole intent of shooting him, after he shot her father and his friend. Nothing is ever the way it seems. While they both travel with a wagon train, an attack on the train forces them to take the lead and continue the trek to Oregon.
In the meantime, Callie decides she wants to become a lady, since she met the Reverend Gabriel Hawkins. Her first attempts prove to be disastrous, and Lincoln gets conned into becoming her teacher, in exchange for some information a lot of people would kill for. Can Lincoln make a lady of Callie? Will they find the treasure they're looking for in the Black Hills?
McAllister's Crossing is entertaining and has lots of action. Trying to figure out who can be trusted is part of the fun. The rest comes from Callie's attempts to become the lady she thinks Gabriel wants. You may feel bad for her when she fails, but those failures provide some of the lighter moments in the story. The serious portion of the story balances the fun and keeps you reading. Just what is this treasure everybody's looking for?
The only way you'll dare cross Lincoln McAllister is to read his story.
