Abilene Donegan has her own way of doing things. When she gets caught climbing through a window of the local whorehouse, Rio McCaine can't wait to hear her explanation. He's surprised the fact he's a half-breed doesn't bother her. As crazy as her proposition sounds, he agrees to go along with it, because it means he can get full ownership of the ranch left to him and his half brother, Julian.. a ranch his brother ran into the ground and abandoned to get away from the creditors.
Rio can't believe the assortment of half siblings Abbie has, and they manage to get on his nerves, especially on his wedding night. The deal he made with Abbie gets crazier by the day. Will he stick it out?
Dolores Fossen's sense of humor shines is this amusing tale of lies and misdeeds. Take one heroine who refuses to play by any rules and insists on always taking the lead; a hero whose goal is to gain full ownership of his late father's ranch; some entertaining wedding night euphemisms and several half sisters, and you've got yourself a fun western.
While Rio isn't so sure he wants to go through with this crazy idea, he wants that ranch pretty badly and he'll stick it out. One bad situation leads to another, but the subtle humor is always there. Add a seven year old whose misdeeds are always paid for by adding to her nightly prayers. Poor Gussie.
The dialogue is fun and secondary characters create situations for Rio and Abbie to get out of. The story has a light touch and will keep you turning pages.
Saddled will keep you grinning.
