Kama Roxbury and Rey Brodie have been attracted to one another since they first met six months ago, but the legal firm they work for has a strict rule about employee fraternization. The attorneys have been taking depositions from employees at the Granite Fork Inn for a suit brought against the business.

Since their plane doesn't leave Montpelier until mid afternoon, they've gone for a sleighride to see a house. Kama is from San Diego and this much snow is a novelty to her. Their horse takes them to a village which doesn't show on the map. Since the temperature has suddenly dropped and it's snowing harder, they decide to take shelter at the village tavern. When they step into the tavern's warmth, they find themselves somehow back in the early nineteenth century. What brought them here, and why?

Sleighride is a fascinating and fun tale which takes place mainly within the walls of a strange tavern.. At least it's strange to Kama and Rey, but they have little problem fitting in. In fact, the attorneys begin to feel at home here and they're at a loss to explain why. They meet a number of villagers, but deal mostly with the tavern owners, their daughter and her fiance.

Kama and Rey want to get back where they belong but realize they must accomplish, or learn something first. In the meantime, they have a great Stan/Ollie routine when they share their sense of humor.

Ms Winters' depth of characters gives readers a taste of life in the early 1800s. There are some things which never change. She uses an unusual plot twist in this story, but to say anything more about it would spoil the ending. There are some things about the goings on that will remind readers of another famous tale, and along the way, Kama and Rey make a comparison as well.

Take a Sleighride where snowstorms abound, but romance keeps you warm, in this different approach to the time travel theme.
