Lt. Jasmine Boswell, loses control of her fighter jet when it's struck by a missle over the Arabian desert. She finds a wounded man in the desert, one who shouldn't be there. When help arrives, the soldier disappears. Although her memories fade somewhat over the next twenty years, Jas never completely forgets the man with the odd colored hair and golden eyes... until one day he appears with a group of militia men from another galaxy, interested in establishing peaceful relations with earth. Rom can't forget the 'Balkenor angel', as he called her, who saved his life twenty years earlier. In a way he wishes she had failed. His unauthorized battle on the radiated moon rendered him sterile. For the first time in hundreds of years, his line, one of eight ruling families of Vash, is broken. He can neither succeed his father, nor can he get involved in Vash politics. While Rom roams galaxies looking for new worlds with which to establish trade, he searches for the angel. Jas willingly jumps into a new adventure and gets more than she expected. She and Rom jump from one hot situation to another, with little time between for characters or readers to catch their breath. Most of the action takes place on Rom's ship but it never gets dull or boring. There is so much Jas wants to experience of other worlds, and she learns about herself in the process. Rom has created a life for himself, outside politics, but finds himself caught up in a continuation of twenty year old events. Emergency situations on the trading ship keep you on the edge of your seat, but they offer a breather now and again. There are also some chuckles popping up unexpectedly now and again. Susan Grant has created another story, holding you in suspense from beginning to end. Whether telling tales of space pirates, Star Kings or anything in between, her talent as a writer will make her a star. Reviewed by Brenda Gayle |
