Despite the fact Ragnar refuses to acknowledge his bastard son, Wulfgar, there's no doubt of his parentage. Wulfgar could pass for the twin of Ragnar's eldest and most beloved son, Ivar.

The old slave, Yelkie, can read the future and she guides Wulfgar along a path which will fulfill his dreams of becoming a warrior. If Ragnar goes after a certain Walas princess and her dowry, there's no telling what will become of her. Yelkie uses the knowledge to give Wulfgar a headstart on capturing the princess. The young woman in question will add to the feud between father and son, but will also win the younger man's heart. Can he protect her from the cruel treatment in store for her if Ragnar and Ivar should capture her?

Wulfgar, is a strong male lead, rising from a lowly position and becoming a warrior. His strength, courage and wisdom, and Yelkie's knowledge, provide the means for him to become the man he has long dreamed of being. He does everything he can to protect the princess, Rhowenna, going so far as to have her trade places with her maid.

There's a good bit of description throughout the story, leaving no doubt about where you are and the people around you. Viking rituals are described, by action and the meaning behind them. Dialogue is appropriate for the times and the characters.

Follow Swan Road to meet the Vikings and captives who travel the route. Your taste for adventure will be well satisfied.
