Setting: Scotland 955 AD

Rurik is known by many names, but the one he likes least is that of the Blue Viking. He earned the name, when five years before, he spent the night with a Scotswoman. He ended up with a blue streak running down the center of his handsome face. He's currently betrothed, but his intended refuses to go through with the marriage until Rorik succeeds in getting the mark removed. How much more trouble can he get into?

Maire of the Moors is a Scots witch whose spells, more often than not, don't work as they should. She won't admit it, but she needs help to get rid of her late husband's brother. Duncan MacNab believes all Maire owns should be his, as his brother's survivor, and intends to wed Maire so he can claim everything. Of course, Maire doesn't agree, and she doesn't have much choice but to accept Rorik's help, in exchange for removing his blue mark.

If you're in the mood for a good story, one to make you laugh, then grab a copy of The Blue Viking. Sandra Hill is at her best with this hilarious tale of magic gone haywire. While Rorik tries to take care of serious business, the chuckles keep right on coming. His men create much of the hilarity, especially his best friend Stigand, and the crew's bard, Bolthor. His sagas of Rorik's adventures are something else. Vikings were never like this.

Secondary characters, the Campbell and MacNab clans add to the fun, but also help create the more serious aspect of the plot. Wait till you read about Maire's biggest blundered spell. Who would have thought...

Characters from Ms Hill's previous Viking stories make an appearance in this one, and lend their not so helpful advice to solve one final problem. Does Rorik finally shed his title of The Blue Viking? You'll have to read the story to find out. This one is a definite keeper.
