Lady Sophia made daily rounds of the local hospital visited with the wounded men, taking their minds off their pain, at least for a little while. She spent more time with a major, discussing many topics of interest to them both. A setback in his recovery, had him asking Sophia to marry him. She agreed, giving a dying man something to ease his mind. When she returned to the hospital, she was told he'd died during the night.
The first thing Major Wyclyff does when he is well enough to be released from the hospital, is go directly to Sophia's home, a special marriage license in his pocket. He intends to hold the lady to her promise to marry him, and can't believe she's left London for good, to live with a spinster aunt. The good major isn't about to let that stand in his way, and sets off to claim his bride. Will he succeed?
Sophia's disgust with the shallowness of the blueblood social circles, leads her to make the decision to remain unmarried and free of any man's whims. When she comes face to face with the major, after being told he died, she's faced with the uncomfortable promise she made to him when he was dying. Now she'll do everything she can to follow her choice. Can she hold up against Major Wyclyff's Campaign?
After almost being buried with Sophia's corsets and writing desk, Anthony realizes it's going to take a lot more to convince the lady to keep her promise to him. So begins the Major's campaign to win his lady's consent.
'When an immovable object meets an immovable force' there's no telling what could happen. Major Wyclyff's attempts to convince Sophia to keep her promise, run into some interesting obstacles and creates a lively story. The Major's militaristic attitude could be a lesson in how not to go about winning the lady fair.
Katherine Greyle has, once again, come up with a witty romance. The characters are entertaining and the plot will keep you reading. The diversity in secondary characters helps create some of the conflict, and an unexpected mystery is quickly solved. As with Rules for a Lady, Sophia and the Major will provide you with some enjoyable reading.
