3/28/01- A Question of Balance.

What a difference a week makes!

Okay, I'm just kidding. On Thursday, Monica went in for her second attempt at a Mylogram. This time they were able to draw some spinal fluid and inject dye into the sac that surrounds the spinal chord. Monica immediately developed what was refered to as a spinal headache. The headache was supposed to last about 24 hours, or Monica could get what is called a "blood patch"; a procedure where they inject blood cells into the spinal chord, and the blood seals the hole that the needle made, ending the headache.

Monica sufferred through Friday, never leaving the couch, while my mother in-law watched the kids. On Saturday, we spent 6 hours in the emergency room. They gave Monica I.V. fluids, and 150mg of demerol.... which dulled her pain. Monica refused the blood patch proceedure, so the emergency room doctor wrote her a perscription for Percocet, and sent us home. As you can guess, the Demerol wore off, and Sunday was a miserable day and I ended up getting an hour and a half of sleep. On Monday, Monica was still suffering through her '24-hour' headache- so I absolutely insisted that she go and get the blood patch proceedure done.
Her spinal headache dulled yesterday, replaced by some kinda stomach cramp/vomiting/diarreah illness. No doubt a 24 hour bug that will stretch beyond 72 hours.

In the "count your small blessings" department, I am happy to say that I haven't taken time off from work over any of this, and I haven't aided her in getting any pills. I kinda feel good about that. I think it's important that I don't compound one sin with another... I sometimes forget the wisdom of that.
