On March 9, 1999, 12 juniors and seniors from Lake Country Christian School boarded a plane bound for Rome. All were members of the High School Choir, and each was specifically talented in his and her own area. All had one common goal...to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people through the arts.
Here are some of us in Rome, on the first day.
We were chaparoned by our
quite talented drama teacher and choir director.
None of us spoke any Italian,
so we were blessed to be working with a Southern Baptist Missionary family...the
Graves.
We only stayed in Rome a day...and
then we went to our mission field in a town called Viterbo. We ministered
through singing, mime, and dance (Italians seemed to love the 'Boot Scootin
Boogie'). Mr. Graves would share the gospel in Italian during our show.
We performed in piazzas, malls, and schools. The most memorable task
we performed was to hand out "publicita" in apartment mailboxes. The handouts
offered free Bibles to everyone who called the number and asked for them.
One of our mimes.
We stayed in a beautiful tiny town called Celleno, in an ancient monestary converted to a hotel. It was dreadfully cold at times, but well worth it for how wonderful it was there. I have never seen a more beautiful country. We even had an ancient castle, right down the street!
We returned home on March 19th. (Surviving the Ides of March!)
What else can I say? God moved...we
all were changed. I'd gladly do it again.
Much bonjourno for Italy!
(No largitus est!)
If you were on this trip and have better
pictures (I couldn't find my good ones!) that you want to
send to me...please don't hesitate!
