The Blue Baby
By Nellie M. Valverde

I was walking down the street, minding my own business when I heard a low sound. Kind of like a cat that was hungry. I normally don't look for hungry cats but for some reason the noise just got to me. I thought, hey I have five dollars in my pocket, I'll find the cat and take it with me and buy it some food and that's that. That will be my good deed for the week. So, I walked into this alley where the noise was coming from and I couldn't see the darn cat anywhere, but I could still here it. The noise was getting fainter though. I saw a trash bag on the ground and it looked like it was moving. I thought, oh great the cat's stuck in some garbage. That's real clean. So I walked to the bag and cut it open, and let me tell you there was no cat in there. I saw a blue baby. I mean blue. There was a cord around it's neck and it was tiny like it was just born minutes ago. I took out my pocket knife and cut the cord off. The baby then started to gasp kind of. I was scared. I picked it up and ran into the store next door and yelled for someone to call an ambulance or something. The man who ran the place did it immediately and he knew how to do CPR and that helped the baby to breathe. The ambulance and cops came and took the blue baby away. I thought that was that. Days later I got a call from some people. Turns out they had adopted the baby and were naming him after me. They want me to go visit the blue baby sometime. I think that's cool. Now I'll have a little friend who I'll always think of as the blue baby.
