Who Needs A Prince?

By: Nellie M. Valverde

Setting: A castle courtyard.

Situation: The Princess Victoria has met the handsome Prince Humphrey and she's not interested. He thinks she is.

Victoria: So, what brings you to my father's castle?

Humphrey: I came to see you of course my fair lady.

Victoria: Sure you did.

Humphrey: I beg your pardon, but what was that comment supposed to mean?

Victoria: I suppose my father offering the kingdom and twenty chests of gold and all of the horses and all the King's men has nothing to do with it.

Humphrey: Of course not. Twenty chests of gold? Anyway, when I heard of your fair beauty and your wonderful disposition I knew you just had to meet me. I mean, I had to meet you.

Victoria: Well that's news to me. I've never heard of you.

Humphrey: You haven't. Well let me tell you . I'm handsome. I'm smart. I have the best clothes in my father's kingdom. I'm an excellent horse rider. I can play the kazoo. I 'm handsome. My mother loves me. Your mother loves me. I'm handsome. And, oh yes, I'm handsome.

Victoria: Wow, you sure are your number one fan.

Humphrey: I know you are attracted to me.

Victoria: I am? Really?

Humphrey: Yes you are and you want me to help you take care of this kingdom with you. You want me to rule with you my lovely bride by my side. You're lucky I'll be happy to help you.

Victoria: I don't need you. What is it with you princes? You think any princess will be happy with you cause you're a prince? Well no sir. Not me. I don't need a prince. Who needs a prince ever? Haven't you noticed all the good fairy tales are about princesses and the prince is a minor character? Let me tell you what I think of you. You're a pigheaded monster, who's handsome only to himself. You also can love no one but yourself. Isn't a marriage based on love?

Humphrey: It is?

Victoria: Isn't it?

Humphrey: Well, I've never heard of that.

Victoria: Really? Well, maybe I'm wrong.

Humphrey: Yeah you probably are. So, do you want to marry me?

Victoria: Sure, why not? You are after all a prince.

Humphrey: That I am.
