MERCHANDISE
Publicity Material
The BBC prepared this press pack for the series.
A set of high quality black and white photo's were also made available. This is some examples.
As well as the press material the BBC distributed these cards.
Records
The theme song 'It Won't Be Easy' was sung by Justin
Hayward.
It was released in 1987 by the BBC as a single and a 12". The
single had the theme song on side one and 'Outer Space' on side two. The 12" had
both of these on side two and an extended version of 'It Won't Be Easy'
on side one.
It was also released on the The Best Of BBC TV's Themes CD.
Videos
On 1st July 1991 the BBC released the entire series as 3
individual VHS cassettes each of which contained 3 episodes.
Contains Episodes An Instinct For Murder Conversations With The Dead Intelligent Listening For Beginners Running Time Approx. 152 Mins | Contains Episodes Trivial Games And Paranoid Pursuits This Case To Be Opened In A Million Years In Warm Blood Running Time Approx. 156 Mins |
Contains Episodes A Double Life Other People's Secrets Little Green Men And Other Martians Running Time Approx. 155 Mins |
The videos were discontinued in April 1994 but are often available at
Ebay.
The artist, Andrew Skilleter, used to sell large signed copies of the cover art. But his website appears dead.
Uniform Badges
I've been informed that when some lucky people
purchased their videos they also received embroidered ISPF and Moonbase patches.
Apparently these were made by Stewart
Aviation. Unfortunately the company no longer has them in stock and
has not retained the designs but will produce badges from designs sent to them.
Fanzine
This badly printed, supposed fanzine used to be sold online but unfortunately only contains articles and interviews freely available online. An interview, many of the pages of information and a variety of pictures have all been taken off this site without permission. I strongly recommend that this 'publication’ be avoided.
Books
The first book An Instinct For Murder is unsurprisingly based on the first Star Cops episode. There are some significant changes from the TV version. It also contains teasers for the other episodes Chris Boucher wrote which are contained in the second book .....
Unfortunately as of September 2007 both are out of print.
DVD
The DVD is still for sale if you look hard.
Extras; Commentaries Chris Boucher on episodes 1 & 9 and Philip Martin on episode 5. Featurettes The Making of, The Career Of Chris Boucher and Designing The Future (models and effects). P.M.'S Question Time. Over 30 mins of discontinous studio recordings. Unused takes and behind the scenes footage. Trailer. Miscellaneous information. Extensive photo gallery. Radio Times cover, feature and series listings.
Things I asked for;
Clip from a TV show about the creation of the special effects. It was broadcast the week before the first episode and was the reason I tuned in. I thought it had been on Blue Peter?
If anyone else remembers this can they let me know.
Wallpaper
Here is a Link
to some Star Cops Wallpaper courtesy of the BBC.
Unfortunately the prospect of any further Star Cops novels looks Doubtful.
I hope that someone somewhere will find a copy of the Death On The Moon script. Anyone...?An even greater sucess would be if the week of rehersals for Death On The Moon had been recorded. It would give a virtually complete audio episode.
The chances of this happening are extremely slight :-(
The Magic Bullet Campaign
Have you ever pondered why a second series was never made?
Have you ever thought would Nathan and Pal ever have 'worked' more closely together?
Have you ever wondered was there someone for Mars?
If you have...
