With belief I stood with fist
clenched to the heavens high.
How foolish of me to think a tryst
is love so easy to come by.
Another promise made in light
And broken 'pon the shore;
A silly lass did think it might
Be that "promise" of times of yore.
Love does hurl that bitter spear
and rend the lover's soul.
When it's only lies you hear,
Cut asunder that which was whole.
In the absence the silence speaks;
When together one hears naught.
Love is not for aged freaks
Go elsewhere to seek what's sought.
How foolish could this lass so be,
Believe in innocence her he loved?
What cloud laid on the brain of she
To hear promised so cloaked and gloved?
Aye, the words he did so speak,
Tumbled from his lips with ease,
And cause the doubt from her to leak
In blindess to what she sees.
Emerald eyes wished what was seen
Not what was truth to behold.
In his promises an illusions screen
He also believed what was told.
"Perhaps he did", she mused aloud,
"love me with his wings unfurled".
Then she settles above that cloud
Realizes from what heights she's hurled.
Foolish lass, no pond for you
How could you think it so...
Foolish lass, no love for you...
Twas not for you meant so...
Pipe dreams filter through the sun
and yet again she hears..
His promise of his heart she's won
Yet all she feels are tears.
Foolish girl, go hide away
In age you've been out grown
Foolish girl, no time to play
No love in this field's been sown.
"Stop" she cries she knows tis true
"He loves me" she weeps to none.
No one hears her pledge but two
Her sisters the moon and sun.
Foolish woman, it is to late
How could you think it so.
Foolish woman don't contemplate
It's his love you'll never know.
Pierced with loves most painful tip
She swoons her faith so tried.
How is it she believed this grip
On her heart, made her satisified.
Foolish womanchild, hide your face
He does not want you can't you see.
Foolish womanchild you're a disgrace
the love of his life you'll never be.
