My Morning an OrsiniFamily.net site! Let me tell you about today – and the last 365 days, in fact! |

Chapter 3 I know this one will
take you by surprise. A year has passed, a year where I quit my job to
dedicate myself more fully to my studies and my kids. During this year, the
house has been as messy as ever, I’ve been disorganized with my studies, but
of course, I’m getting pretty excellent grades anyway, and well, I’m not
working. During the years that I
worked, it felt as if I were warding off a fit of tears, like I never slept,
and as if the whole world was on my shoulders. Yet, I managed to get through
that time and I’m here. And now, I still feel a bit overwhelmed at life. I
guess that was not just the job, but my personality. Yet, I also feel like
God has put me in a moment for his purpose. I’ve been writing in these
past few days more than ever. But during these months, I didn’t. You see, I
thought I would have time later. Always later. And that’s scary. I’d go all
day watching educational stuff with the kids, cool shows we got a lot out of,
and even just some fluff, like “The Beverly Hillbillies.” Well, I learned
something from it all, and it was mostly that I can really waste time when I’m
watching TV. For a full year now, I have
gotten back on the horse, so to speak, and really schooled, for about a day
and a half. Then, the unschooler in me would rear her head and I’d get back
to the business of getting out of my kids’ way. So this year, my daughter
decided that her brother needed to come down a notch, so she had me enroll
him in FLVS for a virtual algebra class. He’s doing well, but he has learned
some humility from the experience. For instance, he didn’t know how to fill
in a multiple choice test. (Yes, really.) My daughter was sick and
injured just as much all year, but she has continued to direct her own
studies. She’s a smart kid who knows that a good book, some classic films,
historical fiction, and tons of great stuff going into her head can make for
a great mind. She’s unschooling a lot, but she’s learning a lot, too. My baby, oh my baby. Luis is 10, and he’s working on learning to read more fluently. He’s
not anywhere near done yet, but he’s gotten better. I’m sitting with him a
couple of times a week to get him to review phonics and read, but for the
most part, his learning is hands-on.
God bless you until next
time. And yes, the house is still a mess. (sigh) ~Stephanie~ aka.
