Subject: strike

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, I was in the vari-hall and I do not think there were 2,000 student
there. I am very frustrated with the university and union but I think we
are over looking the problem. we paid the tuition fee but we are not
getting the service. This is my fourth year in the university, I
personally know many T.A, but I do not know any of the people in the
picket line. I was told by one of the coucellor, which I do not know the
truth of it, that the day of voting only 25 percent of the members
participated and 93 percent of the 25 percent voted in favour of strike.
If this is true, only 22 percent of T.A and contract faculty are in
favour of strike. I do not care personally, I paid for this service but
the two sides both union and the university are compromising my
education. Let's not complicate things, the university is not going to
pay us, we are lucky if we can get on with our courses. This is not the
first time univesity is facing a strike. I suggest that we pressure both
sides, I am going to call my member of parliment and minister of
education to interfere. I do not think the univesity is going to be
intimidated by legal action that would only complicate the problem. It
seems to me, the union has equal responsibility the same as university.
