IS ANYONE IN THE RIGHT? We recently contacted both The Prophet of the Fierce One, Annushka Moya and the Galactic President Constitution about the continuing situation that is developing between the SIR alliance and the Prophet of the Mighty One, Flying Haddock. Their responses to our questions are as follows. First, Galactic President Constitution. Q. Flying Haddock claims that he recently asked you to not use FIP/FSP offers of protection as an excuse to go and find them. Is this true? Yes. Flying Haddock apparently contacted me at the prompting of Dora, who claimed to have offered protection the turn before we meet in the same system. I pointed out that Dora had not posted any protection offers for the turn in question, and Flying Haddock publicly chastised Dora for making the false claim. Dora also appologized to me. Q.If this is true, do you believe that Flying Haddock would then go against that request himself by using Tiny's offer of protection as an excuse to find him? It seems highly unlikely. On the other hand, it's also unlikely that two quarelling ships would just "happen" to end up in the same system on consecutive turns. However, it seems like this issue is no longer relevent to the ongoing dispute. Q. Do you agree with Flying Haddock's actions - these being extorting a module from SIR ship Duplo, declaring Aimless Wanderer and enemy, and declaring that Tiny should be made to pay tribue for being a False Prophet? Also, do you think that Tiny was a False Prophet? Let me put it this way. I have been in contact with both sides, and each party believes strongly in their position. To make a public statement in support of either side while there's still a chance for a settlement seems unwise. Q. Do you think that the whole of SIR should be involved or just Tiny, Duplo, and Aimless Wanderer? That's a matter for SIR to decide. And now the responses from Annushka Moya, Prophet of the Fierce One. Q. Do you consider a declaration on your registry of hostilities as a declaration of enemy status? No. I see the two as separate, yet possibly related activities. A declaration indicates hostile intent - if I see you, I'm likely to attack you or demand a module. To me, an "enemy" is a ship that I will do my best to pursue and destroy or otherwise extract some punishment from. This doesn't mean, of course, that the two are mutually exclusive; just that they're independent activities. Q. Do you consider that the reasons that Flying Haddock, Sands of Time, and Aimless Wanderer have declared against each other are decent, valid reasons? It's so hard to say because I can see that all parties believe they've been wronged. It's difficult to see where the "right" is amongst them. From what I've seen (and that's just been a limited glimpse into some of the discussions), no one is as "right" as they believe themselves to be, nor as "wrong" as their opposition believes them to be. Of course, it is not clear whether this means that the parties can wend their way through the (presumed) negotiations towards and amicable settlement. Q. Do you have any thoughts/opinions on the current situation between Flying Haddock and SIR? Not really. I think there's been a definite increase in the overall level of tension throughout the universe. I feel that things are very similar to the situation on that planet, Earth, prior to World War I, where there are some truly strange alliances being formed and it will only take a minor incident to set things off. This sort of stage-setting seems to have been going on for quite some time and has, to this observer, seemed to result in greater and greater factionalization amongst the captains. I can't help but feel that the recent steps towards having a Tribune will do nothing to ease these tensions and the tinder is merely having more gasoline poured upon it prior to someone lighting a match. Then again, I'm very possibly wrong. :-) |

MARGIN SHORTENS BUT
CONSTITUTION IS STILL
PRESIDENT The position of Galactic president has been held, since it's birth, by Constitution, who most will say has done a good job as president. However, this last election, he raked in his lowest number of votes of a while. Is this a good omen for the FIP? Probably not, because Rosalind of the FIP also lost votes. There is more to indicate voter apathy than there is to indicate a swing away from one party and towards the other as is shown by the number of votes cast for nobody. Did people just forget to vote, or do those holding the votes not care anymore? If you do care about who the president is, then go out, collect those votes, and vote for a candidate. Voting for nobody is a sure fire way to get someone you don't want in power, in power. THE FINANCES SECTION by Nigel Villers-Smythe
The average amount of weaponry favour in the galaxy is still rising nicely, which means that more ships are capable of chaining Dybuk The average medical favour is also on the up. A good sign from these figures is that terminal access are being restored. On average, every player can now support a science artefact without losing favour. This is a good thing, and it shows that the damage that Flying Beak and Better Ship Lollipop caused is being repaired.
