WHO ORDERED THE WAR?
by Nigel Villiers-Smythe

It seems that tensions are building between Flying Haddock, the Mighty Prophet, and SIR. Since the last issue, many interesting developments have taken place. Flying Haddock has been placed on the SIR enemy list, along with Almost Honest, one of his chosen, and he met with Sands of Time who extracted a weaponry artefact in payment for the Advanced Warp Drive that Flying Haddock took from SIR ship Duplo. Also, Flying Haddock dropped all SIR members from being chosen of the Mighty One, with the exception of the Repulse. When asked about this, his reasoning was that Repulse was "doing stirling work with banishing and protecting from Dybuk, and it would be self-defeating for my aims if I unchose him".

Probably the most interesting development since our last report was Flying Haddock's apparent use of the Protection from Dybuk Offer made by Tiny, and charge which the Mighty Prophet vigorously denies. His case, however, was not helped when on the very next turn, he was found to be in system with Tiny again, hinting very strongly at use of the Chase command. Again, this is a charge which Flying Haddock vigorously denies.

On the second occasion that Flying Haddock and Tiny were in system together, Flying Haddock met with the SIR warship Sands of Time, who extracted the weaponry artefact.

Flying Haddock is still an enemy of SIR, and he too has now declared all SIR ships as enemies via the Prophet of the Fierce One's registry of hostilities. It seems that a War is brewing between the Mighty Prophet and SIR. It is known that Flying Haddock has links with the Smugglers Net, and whether he will call in these links is unknown. However, what is known is that it is Flying Haddock has no intention of backing down, and nor indeed do SIR.

What can immediately be seen from these figures is that the amount of engineering and weaponry favour in the galaxy is on the rise. Given the constant free Dybuk that is happening at present, the fact that the amount of favour is rising is a good sign as it means that we are ahead of Dybuk. Another big riser is the average cash per player. This can obviously be traced down to ships not buying as many modules from the shops any more because Constitution appears to be restocking with only basic modules.

TRIBUNE FOR THE PEOPLE
by Nigel Villiers-Smythe

A brand new position of power has been created for the younger generation of ships in TBG. It is called "The Tribune of the People", and should not be confused with this newspaper. There is, as expected, early confusion about who should hold this new position, and exactly what powers it has. Putting it simply, the player who holds the position of Tribune gets to choose any one player who is eligible for ministership and can prevent them from being a minister for the period up to the next presidential election. There are three main candidates up for the post, or so our sources can reveal so far. These are Majestik Moose, Breisinga-Men and Salt Baked Space Parasite. Little is known of Majestik Moose, and not much more is known of Salt Baked Space Parasite, although the latter has a tendency to "wum" a lot in public. However, there are plenty of rumours flying around about the captain of the Breisinga-Men. At present, all of these rumours are without evidence, although the most interesting rumour that has been whispered down the grape vine is that the Breisinga-Men is captained by none other than the former captain of the Maher Shalal Hash Baz after a sex change operation. Once again, we must stress that this is a rumour, and we do not have any firm evidence for it.

So, this new position of the Tribune is an interesting one. It is time for the new players in TBG to show the older generation that they can work together to get what they want, and don't have to rely on hand outs from the bigger ships.

CAN CONSTITUTION CLAIM A VICTORY OVER FIP?
by Nigel Villiers-Smythe

Those of you who have been paying attention recently will have noticed a couple of large battles occuring between Galactic President Constitution and FIP ship Dora. During these battles, it seemed that Constitution had the upper hand, and now it is that case that either Dora was restarted by Constitution, or Dora has restarted of his own accord. This reporter is inclined to believe the second option because there have been plenty of rumours running around that Dora (or Tiny Dora as he is now called) was planning to restart soon anyway. The question is whether the battles against Constitution tipped the balance in the favour of a restart. If they did, then surely Constitution can claim victory over Dora in this battle of the war between FIP/FSP and Constitution.

 THE EDITORIAL

Would you believe it, and edition of the TBG Tribune coming out on time! Yes, you are not dreaming. However, we are running extremely short on people to write articles for us. Don't be afraid that you will embarrass yourself, you won't. Don't be afraid that no-one will read your reports, they will. Recent speculation as to the validity of some of our reporting recently on the Sirius Space Dog saloon is a testament to the fact that this publication is read. So please do contact us, we don't bite, and we will be more than happy to print your work for you.

Beakis, Bone-head, and BSL, rebels without an endgame
- Rambling Randal

Let's start with these words of un-wisdom from the Times:

"So...as long as the Prophets can't keep Dybuk chained we should keep them in office. No wonder they're doing such a poor job of it..."

Maybe if this moron took his head out of the sand for a few seconds and took a look around, he would see how stupid he is. Flying Beak, Alpha, and Better Ship Lollipop are leading a successful campaign to release Dybuk and purge terminals, but who cares? The fact of the matter is that they have absolutely no goal or purpose other than to cause trouble. This won't get them into the top twenty (or keep them there) or attain a prophethood or political position, and it certainly isn't helping their popularity. What this anonymous person probably doesn't realize, as we sentients do, is that no one can prevent a determined ship from releasing Dybuk.

Since it can't be prevented, the current prophets have done the next best thing: They have minimized the damage that he does, and they have done it better than anyone could have hoped. Similarly, nothing can stop a determined purger from purging. There is less here that the prophets can do, but look at how bad the perpetrators have hurt themselves. Last I saw BSL, he was running around with a broken science artifact, Alpha has been restarted 2 or 3 times, and Flying Beak was reduced to cowering behind BSL. The unholy trio have been relegated to three loonies trying to shoot people randomly in the streets when everyone has left the streets and started taking the subway. They have no purpose, no endgame, and no hope. They are like a message board flamer (we all know the type) in that they are doing this to get a rise out of the TBG community, and now they don't even get that. They are just there, like an alien, to shoot at.

My advice: Paradox was a megalomaniac, but at least he saw this coming and impaled himself on his sword to save what little dignity he had left. You have no dignity. Just drop out already. You are not proper players.

Editor,

As a newbie, I resent Rambling Randal's comments about all newbies being cannon fodder and unwilling to engage in discourse. He has obviously never interacted with a young ship before, and he is basically clueless. With my bid for the position of Tribune of the People, I hope to show him and the whole game what newbies can do.

Majestik moose

Dear Editor,

After reading RR's article in which he quotes, " ...allow newbies (read: the weak) to assert their collective political power, " I became a little annoyed with this statement. It is true that newbies are weak, but NOT because they are new, because it is the limit of their position in TBG. I know several newbies who have a strong opinion on TBG politics but lack what it takes to do anything about it. I think the position of Tribune is a blessing to TBG. I am not saying this against RR, but it seems obvious that he agrees with the idea that newbies are weak or that "the weak don't care to assert their collective influence." The former is true in many cases, but not by choice. Being weak in the early stages of TBG is by design, but not limited by that. If a newbie says that TBG politics are unsound but does not try to do anything about it, then they are at fault. But if a newbie says the same and TRIES to do something about it, but cant at no fault of his own, then thats what the Tribune is

for. I DO agree that Constitution is courting the newbies, or "...Constitution, champion of the weak.. ", as RR so eloquently puts it. This to me is plain wrong, but alas, it is politics. Also, the lack of high tech MODs is also not something that should be done as much as it has been. In closing, there was a time when Constitution and an all the older players were newbies themselves, so they should understand well the limits of the position and instead should try to help in whatever way possible, even if the newbies reject the help. The newbies are the feet that keep TBG standing. A newbie today may become the next Constitution or Prophet tomorrow.
