You were a child. What was joy to you? What was love to you? What were your goals? What would you change? What do you cherish from then? Can you imagine a day from long ago - A day filled with happiness, sunshine, and laughter? If not, let's make one...
We have just come from your house, and we have our bikes and two bags of M&M's for a snack. You brought a deck of cards, I brought a new comic book. We find a quiet spot by the water and you make goofy faces that make me laugh. We test to see if the candies will melt by setting a couple in the hot sun on a flat rock while the cards are dealt. You make weird voices, I yelp when a spider runs next to my foot, and we wander in search of ripe blackberries. We laugh about kids at school, and I find I can tell you anything. You tell me your dreams, your hopes, your most secret fears, and the day goes on in a blur of sweet breezes and birdsong...We sit quietly by the water, watching the small baby fish dart through the clear ripples. A pair of young couples glide by on canoes, and we hide, seeing if they will notice us. After they go by, we watch the birds twisting in the sky and discuss what we saw on tv last night. It is just another day in our endless summer vacation. A day that is as much yours now as it was mine.
